I found this tip on Real Simple’s website. I love roasted garlic but hate that it takes almost an hour to make. I tried this out using my Pampered Chef deep covered baker and it was really quick & easy (not that roasting garlic in the oven is hard!). I do prefer the color that the garlic turns in the oven, but this method is great if you are running short on time.
I used the garlic for dinner last night in one of our favorite dishes – Smoky Chicken Pasta. It was great!!
Slice off the top of the head to reveal all the cloves.
Place the head in a small, deep dish, season with salt and pepper, and drizzle with 2 tablespoons of good olive oil.
Spoon 2 tablespoons of water into the bottom of the dish, cover it with plastic wrap, and cook at medium power for 7 to 7 ½ minutes.
Let stand for a few minutes before unwrapping.

I too followed this recipe pretty close – except I only use a drizzle of Olive Oil and not the full 2 Tbs that it calls for. I used a small Pampered Chef 1 cup glass Prep bowl (its lid is not micro-safe) and covered it with a cheap white lunch plate (chip plate from mexican restaurant). The garlic came out ok. Not soft enough to 'spread' and VERY mild in flavor. It's a good quick substitution for oven roasting. will use again.
I did this on medium heat. I watched it like a hawk…
And, my garlic is soft, but the individual cloves to "spread" well like they do when they are oven roasted. I thought the steam in the microwave would have made it better.
Sad beans. My daughter loves roasted garlic on her bagel for breakfast. I really wanted this to work.
