Chicken & Pepperoni Grilled Cheese Sandwich

August is Panini month! One of my favorite panini’s comes from a local bakery called Edgar’s. In addition to wonderful sandwiches, Edgar’s has the best strawberry cake – EVER! I always get an Edgar’s strawberry cupcake for my birthday.

My panini of choice at Edgar’s is the Marilyn Monroe. Edgar’s Bakery describes it as “Hot steaming sliced breast of chicken with pepperoni and melted mozzarella cheese on toasted cheddar bread with marinara dipping sauce.”  I describe it as “YUM”.  How could I not love this sandwich?!  It combines my love of chicken and pizza.

How to Make a Panini Sandwich

This sandwich is super easy to make. Spread butter on one side of each piece of bread and sprinkle with garlic powder. Put one piece of mozzarella cheese on each non-buttered side of bread. Top one side with pepperoni and chicken. Place the remaining slice of bread butter side up on top of the meat. Place butter-side down in a heated skillet. Cook until golden brown on each side. Serve with heated pizza sauce.

  • I don’t own a panini press, but I do have a grill press. I used the grill press to press down the sandwiches in my grill pan. They turned out great!!
  • Can substitute sliced deli turkey for the chicken if you prefer.
  • I used Pepperidge Farm Sourdough Bread slices. You can use any hearty sliced bread for the sandwich.

We both loved this sandwich. I might even say that my version was better than the original! We serve the sandwich with some pasta salad and chips. It is also great with a salad. Here are a few of our favorite recipes from the blog that go great with this yummy sandwich:

  1. Looks Yummy! I love panini sandwiches of all kind. I also Love Edgar's. I visited the one in Birmingham.

  3. My husband works late on Tuesdays, so I usually try to have pizza or some kind of nice sandwiches. I know what I'm making tonight! Thanks for the inspiration.

  4. omg, this sounds WONderful. I don't own a panini press either, but my handy little foil wrapped brick and my grill pan work just fine. And that brick takes up alot less room than a panini press. Thanks for sharing this sandwich idea.
