Easy Cheese Bread Recipe

A few weeks ago I shared my recipe for Cinnamon Roll Pulls, a sweet pull-apart bread. In the post, I mentioned a savory cheesy version. I had several requests for the cheesy bread recipe. Well, you asked for it, you got it! I went with a cheddar bacon ranch bread. I knew these flavors would work well together since they are in my favorite dip, Crack Dip. This bread is crazy good! You MUST make it!

How to Make Cheesy Pull-Apart Bread

This is very easy to make. Start with slicing a round loaf of sourdough bread. You are going to cut the bread going both directions. Do not cut through the bottom crust. It should resemble a Blooming Onion. Next, stuff some cheddar cheese slices and cooked bacon in between the cuts. Mix together some melted butter and ranch dressing mix. Pour it all over the bread. Wrap the bread in foil and bake until the cheese has melted. Remove from the oven and dig in!

  • Sourdough works best for this pull-apart bread recipe because the loaf is sturdy enough to be cut into squares and not fall apart.
  • Make sure not to cut all the way through the loaf of bread. Cut it like a blooming onion.
  • You can make this bread ahead of time and refrigerate it until you are ready to bake.
  • You can substitute turkey bacon for the pork bacon.

Pull-Apart Crack Bread is Great for a Party

These Cheddar Bacon Ranch Pulls are unbelievably good! My favorite part was the ranch butter that was poured over the loaf.  Like the Cinnamon Roll Pulls, this cheesy pull-apart bread is highly addictive. We will refer to this bread as “Crack Bread” from now on!  Give it a try at your next gathering. I guarantee everyone will love it!

  5. We devoured this bread! It was so delicious all cheesy bacony ranchy goodness with the sourdough all baked crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Now I crave the stuff. Crack indeed!

  6. I've made this 4 or 5 times now, and once or twice we're used different seasonings and ingredients like blue cheese. No matter how I make it, everyone goes crazy for it. I once made two to try to feed everyone at a big family dinner, and everyone complained that they wanted more! lol

Thanks for posting this recipe. I love it, and I have yet to find a person who doesn't ask me for the recipe after eating it!!

  7. Just made this for 7 teens and it took me a half hour to make and 8 minutes for them to devour it. I only got one bite! Big success….

  8. I make this alllll the time for our neighborhood gatherings. It's actually requested and I dare not show up without one in hand!

  9. Looks great. I do one where I stuff the bread with swiss cheese & ham lunchmeat. Then mix yellow mustard with melted butter & some Beau Monde seasoning (Spice Island) and drizzle over the top. Bake until all melted. It’s a family, church & work favorite.

  10. I made this last night. Very tasty. My family just loved them and ask for more.I will def be making them again soon. Thanks!

  13. I was thinking maybe a buffalo chicken version and for a brunch-french toast, maple syrup, bacon version….any idea of how to achieve these???

  14. I'm making this for a party and am wondering how it transports? It will be about 30-45 minutes from oven to eat. After taking off the foil and baking the last 10 minutes if I cover it back up will it get soggy? Has anyone tried this?

  15. This looks like something all the family would enjoy! Can't wait to try this one… thank for sharing!

  16. I originally found this site after seeing a pic of this on Facebook and then looking for the recipe. I'm joining and bookmarking this site for everything else, lol! 17. Seriously amazing! I took this to a cookout Sunday night, and it was a huge hit! After everyone had picked the top from the bread, the hostess took the leftover piece, rewrapped the foil, and put it on the grill until the bottom got crunchy and the remaining cheese remelted. It was incredible! I am certain that I will be asked to take this to every party from now on 🙂 Thanks for a great recipe!
    Cheers, Andrea

  18. In the oven now! I'm so anxious! It may be a new staple of mine at family gatherings… Thanks dear!

  21. When you continue baking unwrapped, do you simply open up the foil or remove it entirely? Stupid question, I know…

  22. Looks like there is a touch of green herbs….what is it? I want to make sure it comes out the same as you intended it to be 😉 so excited!

  23. Going to a Superbowl party this Sunday and I can't wait to share this deliciousness…I know it will be a hit!

  24. just finished rendering down my bacon (didnt want to use fake bacon bits) and have just placed it in the oven. My mouth is watering already – cant wait to take it out – used shredded colby/chedder cheese looks great

  25. I will most certainly be making a variation of this on Super Bowl Sunday! Hubby is having a party & this will be sure to be a hit with the guys!
    I found it on Pinterest!

  26. Oh. My. Goodness. This is absolutely delicious!! I did use shredded cheese and it worked perfectly-although a little messier than slices, I would imagine. Will definitely be trying different variations. I'm thinking maybe mozzarella and pepperoni with Italian seasoning…could even dip in pizza sauce.

  27. Thank you for your wonderful recipes. I use them all the time. I'm making this for a get together at work this week. do you think it would be ok to use shredded cheese instead of sliced?
    WDE!

  28. Making this now, can't wait to try it. Can you come up with a pull with Mexican flavors? I was thinking taco seasoning and mexican blend cheese… hhhmm

    Thanks for sharing.

  33. You are my hero – bread, bacon, cheese, butter – what more can you ask for! Thanks for sharing 🙂

  34. What would be the best way,if I made this for a church potluck, to make it and store it and serve it without it getting yucky? Can this store for a little bit or does it need to be eaten right away???

  35. I made this Saturday and every at the party LOVED it. Like BJ mine too was gone before I could get a picture of the beautiful creation. I blogged about it and linked it back to you. I will defiantly make this again it was AMAZING!!! I think next time I am going to try to make my own bread as well.

  36. Mercy..this is the best bread….sooo good.
I made it, am doing a post about it, links back to you…and my friends ate my bread before I could get a nice photo. May I use one of yours, lined back to you?
    Thanks, O GREAT BREAD MAKER…,
    XO bj

  37. A colleague just sent me the link to your blog. I love it. You can rest assured that this will be served down on the plains this weekend. War Eagle!

  38. I just made this for a pitch in tonight at church – it went over well. One little girl couldn't wait to get at it! Thanks.

  39. What would be the best way to serve this at a potluck, with tongs for pulling or just with a couple of large forks jammed in the top?

  40. Mary Sue – I wouldn't serve this cold. I think microwaving it is the way to go. The bread won't be as crusty, but I think it would still taste good. Hope it works out!

  41. I would love to bring this to a potluck at work but have no way to bake it there.

Could I bake it at home and then heat in the microwave?

Or would it be okay to serve cold?

  42. Holy deliciousness!!! I just threw mine in the oven, and it smells so yummy.. It's going to go great with the football game tonight!! You are a genius!

  43. Delicious! Made this for our preseason football get together. I used turkey bacon and subbed butter for 1/4c can't believe it's not butter and 1/4c marg. Everyone LOVED this! I can't wait for the regular season!

  44. LadyDragonfly – DANG GOOD!! You could even use pesto.

I have all that in the fridge – might have to try that this weekend.

  45. i have a plan. i'm on a diet, but i have a very large husband, and 2 large teenage boys in the house. what i will do is make this when they haven't eaten all day. i'll bring it out, snatch a few crumbs for myself, and then get out of the way of the ravening hordes.

  46. Wow! One of my facebook likers just linked me to this and all I can say is WHOA BABY! Must try this stat.

  47. I found this on pinterest and had everything but the bacon bits. I just bought some and it is in the oven now!! I forgot I was out of foil – so I hope it turns out just as good without being wrapped in foil!! Thanks for sharing! 🙂

  48. The only thing I don't normally have on hand is the bread. Adding that to my list now! I can't stop drooling over the pictures, so who knows what will happen when I make it. Thanks for sharing!

  49. My, oh my. I've made both now and the hubs and son can't decide which one they like more. The son asked me to make pasta with the crack version so he could make a 'better' decision. Ha…I think he just wants more. Thanks so much for the great recipes.

  50. @The First Time Mom – I agree – this is perfect party food!

@Robertson Pest and Termite – this bread is great tailgate food! Glad you found us!

  51. The BF saw this on al.com this week and asked me to make, which I did today. Oh my!! We now have a new menu addition for football Saturdays! So glad to find your blog.

  52. I just sort of accidentally stumbled on your blog and I honestly think I might be in love. Cheddar and bacon and ranch? With carbs? Gah! Love!

  53. This recipe was pinned on Pinterest and I just have to say thank you for it! My waistline won't like it but I know it will be a hit at my next get-together! Looks amazing and so easy!

  54. This version is like what I was familiar with. In our version we use melted butter and Colby Jack cheese with Sour Dough bread. From now on I am adding the bacon!!! Just had the cinnamon bread again this past weekend. It will be our Sunday breakfast for a good bit, at least, until they tell me to stop!
