Quick & Easy Homemade Enchilada Sauce

This recipe for homemade enchilada sauce is so easy that you will never buy the canned stuff ever again!  The secret ingredient in the sauce is Knorr Caldo de Tomate – a chicken and tomato bouillon spice mixture.  I found it in the ethnic food isle at Publix.

It only took about 10 minutes (at the most) to whip up this sauce and it tasted delicious!  We used it to make some chicken and cheese enchiladas.  This recipe makes two cups of sauce –  enough for a 9×13 pan of enchiladas.  We both loved it.  I plan on using this sauce the next time we make the Bubble Up Enchiladas.  YUM!

  1. We just made this and it was so easy and you are right, we will never buy canned again! It is so tasty, Mamacita is going to put it on top of her burrito and we are going to make enchiladas with it too. Thank you!

  2. Way quicker than the sauce I make so I will definitely give it a try. The one I do is a variation of Alton Brown's and has quite a longer simmer.

  3. I've got to find this stuff. I'd love to be able to make my own enchilada sauce. I've almost weaned myself off of bottled salad dressings and would love to do so with sauces. Thanks for this recipe.

  4. Your enchilada sauce does look easy and i am so glad you posted it. It's very difficult to find a good enchilada sauce in the grocery store.

  5. That's part of the reason I don't make homemade enchilada's more. The can stuff is not that good and it's expensive.

    Thanks!

  6. They look delicious Steph and that's a great tip on the Knorr's – we like their soups and will have to give this a try.

  7. Those enchiladas look so good, I want them for breakfast!!

I also use that chicken tomato bouillon for Mexican rice…it's so good!!
