Vanilla Sugar

This vanilla sugar is over the top delicious!  It is packed full of amazing vanilla beans.  This recipe uses the entire vanilla bean, not just the caviar inside the bean.  It only takes about 5 minutes to make.  Super simple!

I buy my vanilla beans from beanilla.com, but the grocery store and Whole Foods also carries vanilla beans.  This is great in coffee, tea, cookies or even broiled on buttered toast.  I plan on giving this away as gifts for Mother’s Day this weekend.


Vanilla Sugar
(Printable Recipe)

1 cup sugar
2 vanilla beans

Cut vanilla beans into 8-10 small pieces.  Place in food processor with sugar.  Process for 3-5 minutes, until vanilla beans are pulverized.  Sift sugar in mesh sieve to remove any vanilla bean pods.  Store in an airtight container.

  2. I make this frequently, and, in a smaller portion, I add grated nutmeg, which then makes a topping into which we dip our martini glasses when we make "sidecar" cocktails. The vanilla sugar nutmeg rim makes it.

    Have you tried ground vanilla pod? I get it from the Arizona Vanilla Company. It's not expensive, and they grind up the pods and it makes a dark vanilla bean powder which gives the wonderful characteristic "flecks" in anything you make. The upside is that it's cheaper than a bean, and, it lasts FAR longer because it's already dried. I use beans still, but the ground pods are always on standby for when I don't have a fresh bean but want vanilla bean flecks, aroma, and taste.
