Ann Romney's M&M Cookies


Last week I shared Michelle Obama's Presidential cookie.  This week I am sharing Ann Romney's Presidential cookie.  I really loved this cookie.  It had all the flavors I love - peanut butter, oatmeal and M&Ms.  It was one of the best cookies I've ever had.

This cookie is interesting because it doesn't have any flour in it.  I didn't even realize that until I was making them.  The peanut butter taste really comes through and there is just enough chocolate.  I substituted mini M&Ms for the regular that the recipe called for.  I took some of these to work (so I wouldn't eat them all ) and they were a hit!

1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 1/2 cups crunchy peanut butter (I used Crunchy Honey Peter Pan peanut butter)
1 Tbsp light corn syrup
3 eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 1/2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
2 tsp baking soda
1 cup chocolate chips
2/3 cup M&Ms candies (I used mini M&Ms)

Heat oven to 325°.

In a large bowl, cream sugars, butter, peanut butter and corn syrup on high speed until well combined. Beat in eggs 1 at a time. Add vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, mix together oats and baking soda. Add to peanut butter mixture and stir until combined. Mix in chocolate chips and M&M's.

Using a standard-size ice cream scoop, drop dough onto baking sheets (about 9 per sheet).

Bake for 18 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool 2 minutes, then transfer cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.

  3. Just noticed a 'bipartisan' cookie posted on MSNBC that combined the two recipes. It calls for 3/4 cup butter and 1/2 cup shortening - like butter-flavor Crisco. Either way - yours are, by far, much more visually appealing. I can't wait to try them out!!

  5. This has been our family's favorite cookie recipe for at least 25 years so recently my son's girlfriend asked me for the recipe ... The way to a man's heart and all! ;-) I had to laugh out loud when I read your post. My son and his adorable girlfriend both hold strong political convictions, albeit opposing ones. I wonder if a cookie will now enter into their "debate!"

  8. I found the Bipartisan cookie recipe for whoever it was that wanted it.
    Bipartisan cookie recipe
    •1-1/8 cups all-purpose flour
    •2-1/4 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
    •1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda
    •1/2 teaspoon salt
    •3/4 cup (1-1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
    •1/2 cup (1/2 stick) vegetable shortening (such as Crisco butter flavor)
    •3/4 cup crunchy peanut butter
    •1/2 tablespoon light corn syrup (such as Karo)
    •3/4 cup plus 1/8 cup granulated sugar
    •3/4 cup plus 1/8 cup packed brown sugar
    •3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
    •2 eggs
    •1/2 cup white chocolate chips
    •1 cup chocolate chips
    •1/3 cup M&M's candies
    •1 cup chopped walnuts
    •1/2 cup mint chocolate chunks, optional

    Directions
    Preheat oven to 350ºF. Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper. In a bowl, whisk together flour, rolled oats, baking soda, and salt.
    In a stand mixer, beat butter, shortening, peanut butter, and corn syrup on a high speed until fluffy and creamy. Add granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract, and mix until well-combined. Add eggs, one at a time, until thoroughly mixed. Turn speed down to low, and beat in flour mixture until combined. Then, stir in white and milk chocolate chips, M&M's, walnuts, and, optionally, the mint chocolate chunks.
    Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto lined cookie sheets. Bake for 12 to 17 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes, and then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

    Makes about 4 dozen cookies.

  11. Happy voting day! I painstakingly picked out all the red and blue M&M'S from my son's stash and added white chocolate chips. First batch baking now, and dough is delicious!!! Hope we can eat them and celebrate tonight!!!!

  12. I have this recipe! Around here they're called "monster cookies" because they're mixed up in such a huge batch that we use dishpans (and a dozen eggs). They're THE BEST.

  13. Great recipe...I'll try it soon... There's only a trouble for me..as Italian, living in Italy...not used to measuring in cups...grams or ounces would be better!
