It's December, and I have Christmas cookies on my mind. This might be my new favorite cookie. These are so simple, but so delicious. I have to warn you, these cookies are not low-cal. They have a block of cream cheese and a stick of butter in them.
These cookies use cake mix as the base and only take minutes to make. The dough needs to refrigerate overnight or at least several hours. It will be too sticky if you don't refrigerate it. They are delicious and very addictive. Chicken Legs recommends waiting to eat the cookies until they are completely cool (he did an unscientific test - for the blog). These are a new holiday tradition at our house!
Almond Cream Cheese Crinkles
(Printable Recipe)
1 box Golden Butter cake mix
1 egg
1 stick butter, softened
1 tsp almond extract
8 oz cream cheese, softened
powdered sugar
In a large bowl, mix together cake mix, egg, almond extract, cream cheese and butter with a hand-held mixer. Cover dough and refrigerate overnight.
Preheat oven to 325. Roll dough into 1-inch balls and coat in powdered sugar. Place on parchment lined cookie sheet and bake for 10 minutes. The tops will look under cooked, but the bottoms will be golden brown. Allow to cool completely before serving.

Almond?
This is a gooey butter cookie and the regular recipe calls for 1\4 tsp. Vanilla extract. So maybe add 1/4 tsp. Almond extract instead
Hi Steph,
Is there almond in the recipe???
Thanks!

But what does Steph say about the almond????? Did you add Almond extract???? If not why is it called Almond cookies???
wanting to know about the almond also!
They look good, I bet he was happy to do testing for you.
I think I'd throw in some toasted slivered almonds.
How many cookies does this recipe make?
I hope Steph answers because i want to make these and wonder how many does the recipe make and ...almonds?
I haven't ever made any of the "Gooey Butter" cake or cookie recipes but this one looks really good and super easy. I think the combination of almond extract & cream cheese will make it decadent and perfect with a cup of tea. I think I might try adding some slivered almonds as well just to give it a little crunch.
I just need to know what gooey butter cake mix is ans if I can subsititue, maybe, yellow cake mix?
I just mixed up a double batch of this cookie batter and I am going to be baking cookies for days! I'm using the small Pampered Chef cookie scoop, and I would say the cookies are "two-bite" size. I also had to bake them a few minutes longer than the recipe calls, but that could be my oven.
I used Duncan Hines Golden Butter cake mix - found it at Kroger. Gooey butter cake is the name of another yummy recipe that uses cake mix and cream cheese.
these were really good but fyi the almond extract doesn't show up in the printable recipe!!
Alexis - thanks - I fixed it. Glad you enjoyed the cookies.
Hi, found your recipe from Pinterest. I also would like to know how many cookies can I make with this recipe. Thank you!
