I saw this recipe online and was instantly intrigued. I had never heard of the term “bird dog”. After some research, I found out they are a “thing” in South Carolina. Nick Henry’s and J C’s Sandwich Shoppe are apparently famous for them. SO, what is a bird dog you ask? Chicken fingers, bacon, cheese, and honey mustard in a bun – or perfection in my book.
These South Carolina Bird Dog Sandwiches are SUPER simple to make. Take hotdog buns. Add a chicken finger, bacon, and cheddar cheese. Pop the sandwich under the oven broiler to melt the cheese. Finally top the sandwich with honey mustard and enjoy!
Chicken Finger Sandwiches for Tailgating
These sandwiches make a fantastic tailgating recipe. Simply buy some chicken fingers on the way to the tailgate and assemble them in the parking lot. The only special equipment you need is a kitchen blow torch. You can use the blow torch to melt the cheese and heat up the chicken and bun. You can also assemble the sandwiches and wrap them in foil and heat them up on the grill. These are my new favorite way to eat chicken fingers!

These look awesome for a game day! This is the first I've heard of a "Bird Dog"!
Have you tried using chicken nuggets cut up instead of chicken fingers?
These look amazing. I live in Walterboro, South Carolina and I have never heard of them!! My husband is sitting here beside me and he is looking forward to me making them. Where here in SC did you say sold them (the city)? Thank you so much for sharing!!
We have bird dogs at some of our local restaurants.Maybe it's just a thing in the upstate of SC.
WOW!!!! These look sooo good. Q and E…my type of cooking!!!! Could they be prepared and then frozen for a quick snack???? Maybe reheated in the microwave….. Would be tasty made with fish fingers and tartare sauce too.
These look dangerous and delicious – probably going to end up eating them as we tailgate in the living room 😉 And aren't Martin's the best?! Love everything they make.
