I love a good burger. We usually grill our burgers, but it has been so cold lately that I had to cook them inside. I got an awesome Lodge Cast Iron Skillet for Christmas. I have been looking for ways to use it and decided to cook some burgers in it last weekend. OMG! Best burger ever and they took less than 10 minutes! It was actually only 6 minutes of cooking time. You can’t beat that! We may never grill burgers again!

You can form the hamburger patties ahead of time and refrigerate until ready to cook them. This recipe makes four 6-ounce burgers. We think that is the perfect size. The cooking times listed in the recipe are for 6-ounce burgers. The burgers are perfectly cooked! If you like smaller burgers, you will need to adjust the times listed below.

Notes:

We like to season the burgers with our All-Purpose Marinade: https://www.plainchicken.com/all-purpose-marinade/
This recipe will cook the burgers to medium/medium-well. Add or reduce the time to get the desired doneness.
Can use any cheese you prefer. American melts the best, but any cheese will work fine in the recipe.

  1. It depends on the quality of your hamburger meat. I'd use ground round and we have a store here that carries some that tastes like beef used to taste! Full of flavor, needing nothing but salt and pepper and it's awesome!

  2. We've been doing this also but add salt and pepper as our only seasonings. We also fry two very thin burgers per person and add a slice of cheese in the middle. I got the idea from Pioneer Woman's "Freddy Burgers" which I think would be like our Steak and Shake, they are yummy also! Have also been doing our steak in the cast iron skillet then the oven…much better than grilling!

  3. We've been cooking our burgers in a skillet for a little while now and found out we love them so much more that way also!! Delicious!
