Kentucky Hot Brown Pizza

Hot Brown Pizza Recipe - mornay sauce(swiss cheese sauce), turkey, tomatoes, bacon, swiss and mozzarella cheese - perfect for watching the Kentucky Derby!

The Kentucky Derby is next weekend. While I'm not a horse racing fan, I always watch the Derby. It is also a great excuse to drink bourbon and eat good food! This year we are making this amazing Hot Brown Pizza. I can't wait! This was SO good!

I made a quick pizza crust with Bisquick - it was great. You can also use a store bought pizza dough. I topped the dough with a mornay sauce (swiss cheese sauce), turkey, tomatoes and thick cut bacon. This was one of the best homemade pizzas we've made. We both couldn't stop eating this!

**For the turkey on the pizza, I used Oscar Mayer Carving Board Roasted Turkey. It was great. Chicken Legs ate the leftovers for lunch the next day. Tasted like Thanksgiving!**

Here are a few of my other favorite Derby Party recipes:

Kentucky Hot Brown Pizza
serves 4
(Printable Recipe)
    Mornay Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • Pinch of freshly ground pepper
  • Freshly grated nutmeg, to taste
  • 1/2 cup coarsely grated Gruy√®re or Swiss

  • Kentucky Hot Brown Pizza
  • 1 2/3 cup Bisquick
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 cup mornay sauce
  • 1 cup chopped turkey
  • 4 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Mornay Sauce:
Melt butter in a heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir in flour, and cook, stirring constantly, about 1 minute. (Do not let mixture brown.) Add milk, whisking constantly. Bring to a low boil, and cook, stirring constantly, about 2 minutes more. Season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Remove from heat, and stir in cheese. Allow to cool slightly.

For Pizza:
Preheat oven to 450.

In a medium bowl, mix together Bisquick and water just until combined. Allow to rest in a warm place for 5 minutes.

Roll out pizza dough on a pizza stone or pizza pan. Top crust with mornay sauce, turkey, bacon, tomato, mozzarella and parmesan cheese.

Bake for 12-15 minutes, until cheese is melted and crust is browned.
