Destin, FL {Where to Eat}

Great places to eat on vacation in Destin, FL - Mitchell's Fish Market, Ocean Club, Fat Clemens's, The Back Porch, The Donut Hole
We went to Destin, FL last month for the Sandestin Wine Festival. We went to the wine festival last year and had so much fun that we decided to go back this year. It was raining off and on, but we didn’t let that put a damper on our trip!

In addition to the Sandestin Wine Festival, we ate at several new places in Destin.
I wanted to share them with you today.

**WARNING! Lots of delicious food pictures coming up! Don’t read if you are hungry! LOL!**

Our first stop was for lunch at The Back Porch
It is a typical beach restaurant – it is right on the water.

They have three “taste testers”.
We got to meet “KC”.

We started with the Crab and Spinach Dip.
It was super creamy and delicious. I loved the crab claws sticking out of the dip!

Chicken Legs got the Shrimp Po Boy. It was served with a side of spicy remoulade sauce.
He said it was good! There wasn’t any shrimp left on his plate, so I assumed it was.

I got the Chicken and Swiss Sandwich.
It came with bacon and a side of honey mustard.
Really good!

I had to get some hushpuppies. I can’t go to the beach without getting hushpuppies.
The Bach Porch’s hushpuppies were yummy! I ate them all!

I also got some onion rings. They were SO good.
I did not eat them all, as I had stuffed myself silly with chicken and hushpuppies.

Our favorite dinner place in Destin is Ocean Club
It is right outside the beach side entrance to Sandestin.
It is SO much fun! There is live music and lots of people dancing. We always have a great time.

We started with the Crab Cake.
OMG! YUM!

I got my favorite – Chicken in a Lemon Butter Sauce.
It was lick the plate good.
I have a homemade version on the blog:
Make it!!

Chicken Legs got the Grouper Ocean Club.
Grilled Grouper topped with shrimp and crab meat.
It is the best seafood dish on the menu.
YUM!!!!

We ventured down to the shops at Sandestin Grand Boulevard and had cocktails at Mitchell’s Fish Market.
I had the Sandestin Cosmo (Smirnoff Vodka, Cointreau, white cranberry juice, fresh lime juice) and Chicken Legs got the Orange Citrus Mojito (Bacardi Silver Rum, lime juice, mint, fresh orange juice).
We enjoyed it so much that we went back for lunch.

Chicken Legs started with a Bloody Mary. He said it was really good.

Chicken Legs got the Tuna Poke Tacos.

Sushi grade ahi tuna poke, sriracha mayo, pickled cucumbers.
He said it was amazing!

I got the Cajun Chicken Sandwich.

Grilled with classic Louisiana spices, melted cheddar, spicy mayo.
It was one of the best chicken sandwiches I’ve ever eaten.
Seriously! SO good. The bun – OMG. So soft and delicious.
I wish I could eat this right now!
We will definitely be back on our next trip to Destin!

Our purpose for going to Destin was to go to the Sandestin Wine Festival.

It was a cloudy and rainy day, but we still had a blast!

This was my favorite wine at the festival.
I love prosecco and this one was fantastic!
There were some yummy cupcakes in the champagne tent.
The cute fondant wine bottles were a little wilted from the rain, but the cupcakes tasted great!

We went over to the beach side of Sandestin to walk on the beach.

We were hoping to catch the sunset, but the rain and clouds prevented it.
We took goofy selfies instead.

We grabbed a Bushwacker at Barefoot’s outside the Hilton.
YUM!

Our last dinner in Destin was at Fat Clemens’s.
It is a great Italian/pizza place.

We started with the Garlic Knots.
I literally sopped up all that amazing garlic butter. SO good.

I got a pizza. It was amazing!
I got cheese with spicy capicola ham. SO good!
I wish I had the leftovers right now.

Chicken Legs got the Chicken Parmesan.
It was delicious!
I would like to have these leftovers right now too!
I recommend getting a reservation to eat here. It is super small.
We got lucky and got a table outside. The wait for inside was over 30 minutes.

I was heading straight to the Chicken Summit in Maryland from Destin.
I flew out of Panama City.
We made a quick pit stop at The Donut Hole.
We had to have something to snack on in the car.

This doughnut was filled with peanut butter cream. O-M-G!
Next time we want to go inside for a full breakfast.
My parents ate here on their last trip to Destin and said the breakfast was great.
HUGE portions, but really good.

  1. My sister lives in the Destin area; she works at Acme Oyster House in Miramar Beach, which has excellent grilled oysters (and everything else is delicious too). We love Stinky's Fish Camp, Dewey Destin's, Donut Hole, as mentioned already by others. But don't miss Great Southern in Seaside, or Thomas Donuts in PCB (worth the hike over there). I don't think she has taken me to Pompano Joe's, so I am going to request that in November when I go!

  2. Try Gulf Place along scenic 30-A. It is a complex with both condos and townhouses. Gulf Place sits on 30-A directly across from the beach. We stayed in a VRBO called Almost Eden and it was great!

  3. I realize this was posted quite some time ago but i am hoping you will still answer. We are hoping to go to Destin this summer but are having a hard time picking a place to stay. Not really wanting a typical hotel chain but not opposed to it either. Any suggestions appreciated!

    1. We typically stay at the Hilton Sandestin or the Embassy Suites in Sandestin. The Embassy Suites is across the street from the beach, but has private access to the beach. The Hilton is right on the beach and a fabulous hotel! Perfect location. Sandestin also has condos. I've stayed in the condos a few times and they are really nice too.

  4. I lived in Destin for about 4 years and this just makes me miss it so much! You have a lot of great places on your list. Also here's some of our other favorites you should try next time you're at the beach: McGuires, Red Bar, Old Bay Steamer on Okaloosa Island, Shakes (love their frozen custard!). Also, I'm with Jan on Another Broken Egg (amazing omelettes!) and Bud & Alley's. Mmmmm now I'm hungry 🙂

  5. But wait…there's more'. Marina Cafe and Crab Island Cantina on the Habour, Bud &Ally's in Seaside, Camille's on Scenic 98. The list just goes on and on…
    BTW…Destin is my home!????

  6. You did good…but there's so much more! Try Another Broken Egg for breakfast, lunch is a must at Pompano Joe's on Scenic 98, and dinner is a must at Stinky's Fish Camp on Scenic 30A

  7. You have to try Louisiana Lagniappe in Destin. Everything I've tried there is DIVINE!! I highly recommend the Eggplant Orleans appetizer. Go for dinner and get a table outside. The service has always been a high point also! Our family tradition is to stop at The Pancakery for breakfast before heading home. The Gone Bananas pancakes are the best! The place is small, so sometimes you have a bit of a wait, but it's totally worth it. Come hungry because the portions are plentiful!

  8. OMG! The Back Porch! I don't think I've been there since high school. I used to have a T-shirt from there so many years ago. I think it was pastel purple. Thanks for the memories!

  9. You went to our fav – Donut Hole and yes the breakfast is worth waiting in line. Another place we found last time was Callahans and it's great food country cooking. When in Destin/Ft. Walton Beach, we always drive over to Panama City Beach just to eat at Angelo's. The steak is worth the drive – totally awesome.

  10. We absolutely love Dewey Destins. They have 2 locations, each are great! Donut Hole is always a must! And check out Baytowne Wharf. It has tons of shops and restaurants. We have eaten at Poppy's Seafood Factory, really good as well. It has a few bars and stuff to do at night as well. Have fun! We'll be there in August!
