Easy Slow Cooker Soup Recipe

This Slow Cooker Steak and Potato Soup is comfort in a bowl. SO good. The best part about this recipe is that you just dump everything in the slow cooker and let it do its thing. It couldn’t be any easier! We had this for dinner and reheated for lunch the next day. It was great both times. All you need is some cornbread and you have an easy weeknight meal! This is already on our menu again for this weekend!

Tips & Frequently Asked Questions

  • The secret ingredient in this soup is steak sauce. I used a bottle of Lea & Parrins Traditional Steak Sauce, but any steak sauce will work fine.
  • This soup has a little kick from some cayenne pepper. If you don’t like spicy food, you can leave it out.
  • I used Yukon Gold potatoes. You can substitute your favorite potato in this soup.
  • Feel free to toss in some carrots and green peas.
  • I recommend a low-sodium or salt-free beef broth.
  • If you don’t like fresh onion, you can substitute a tablespoon of dried minced onion flakes or about a teaspoon of onion powder.
  • Can Steak & Potato Soup be frozen? Yes! You can freeze leftovers for a quick meal later. To reheat, thaw and heat on the stove, in the microwave, or in the slow cooker. Add broth if necessary.

  1. I have made this several times. It’s my go-to beef soup recipe. I’ve made it with stew meat and also left-over pot roast and it’s amazing both ways.

    1. Any changes and substitutions to the recipe would be up to you. I have only made this recipe as written, so I can not say how long to cook the soup if you do not use stew meat. I suspect a tender cut of steak would not take very long to cook.

  2. I made this tonight and it was beyond Awesome ! Why , even tho I’ve made things like this befor never was this great @@

  3. I made this over the weekend and it was so good! The meat just melts in your mouth and I really like the little kick from the spices. I've been sharing this recipe with friends and I will definitely be making it again!

  4. I made this tonight, it's all gone! My three kids and husband ate it all. I did brown the meat first, then dumped it in….I added a bit more water too. But the recipe is keeper for the cold January nights! os, we loveee A1!

  5. This soup looks great, and could be like a stew and add more veggies if you wish, I know it is a potato soup but the extra veggies to your liking would be great.. I love dishes like this… quick and easy the cooker does the work as for cooking.

    1. This was good… but I added some heavy whipping cream and the soup became even better! Creamy steak and potato with a little kick… super yummy.

      1. I’m making this (again) tonight. I’m going to try your heavy cream suggestion. Sounds like it’s going to be delicious! Thanks!

      2. Sounds yummy! How much heavy cream did you use for this recipe? And when did you add the cream, during the cooking process or at the end?

        Thanks
