How to Cook Grits in the Instant Pot

These grits are super easy to make. Start with the Instant Pot on Sauté mode. Cook the sausage until it is no longer pink. Make sure to break up the sausage while it is cooking. Next, add a little liquid to the insert and scrape up all the browned bits on the bottom of the insert. That will prevent you from getting a BURN notice. Add the grits and the remaining liquid and cover the Instant Pot. Cook until the grits are tender. Release the pressure and stir in the cheese and a little milk.

  • You need to use Stone Ground Grits.  NOT quick cook or instant. STONE GROUND GRITS. They should be near the other types of grits at the grocery store.
  • Just DON’T USE INSTANT OR QUICK COOK GRITS!!!
  • I used Jimmy Dean Sausage. Feel free to use any brand or any flavor.
  • You can use any cheese that you prefer. I used cheddar.
  • Are grits gluten-free? Yes! Make sure to use a gluten-free sausage.

    1. The only thing I can think of is the milk might be burning in your IP. You can try adding all the milk after the grits have cooked. I haven't had this problem, so this is my best guess.

  1. Can eggs be added in ? If so would they need to be cooked/scrambled in a separate pan and added in to the Instant Pot after the grits are cooked ?

  2. I LITERALLY just ordered an Instant Pot because of this recipe. This looks amazing! What a great idea!
