1 cup milk
A pinch of salt
¾ cups sugar
5 egg yolks
2 cup heavy cream
1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
Heat the milk, salt, and sugar in a saucepan. Stir together the egg yolks in a bowl and gradually add some of the warmed milk, stirring constantly as you pour. Pour the warmed yolks back into the saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly and scraping the bottom with a heat-resistant spatula until the custard thickens enough to coat the spatula. Strain the custard into the heavy cream. Stir in the vanilla extract and chill thoroughly, freeze in your ice cream maker according to the manufacturers instructions.
I've had an ice cream maker for about 10 years and had never used it, now how crazy is that. Over 4th of July Holiday, I brought it up from the basement and we too made some vanilla ice cream. It's so unbelievably delicious! I'll probably never buy ice cream from the store again. I have a lavender plant in bloom, so my 2nd attempt was Lavendar/Honey Ice Cream. It was pretty good but didn't like it as well as the first. Can't wait to experiment more. 🙂
I got the Cuisinart ice cream maker for a wedding gift a couple years ago and love it! Every summer we pull it out and make homemade ice cream.
Your vanilla ice cream looks deeeelicious!
Yum! I love some homemade ice cream!
I think I need to break down and purchase one myself!
