Demetri's BBQ

Saturday, March 6, 2010
A few weeks ago we ventured out in The Ham to find a new place to eat lunch.  We ended up at Demetri's BBQ in Homewood.   I worked near by YEARS ago, but I never was adventurous enough to go in.  I didn't know what I was missing!

Demetri's is owned by a Greek family.  They have some Greek influences on the menu - dressings and salads.  Wednesday night is Greek chicken night - I plan on being there for that really soon!  We both absolutely love Greek chicken.

We noticed some signs on the table when we sat down that noted Demetri's won the People's Choice award for Best Finger Lick’n Chick’n at last years Kick'n Chick'n Wing Fest.

Well, we are not ones to turn down award winning food, so we decided to give them a try and see if we agreed. (We like to sacrafice for the cause like that). I am also more adventurous with wings since I recently figured out I might like some of them.  The wings were smoked and came with a wonderful bbq ranch flavored dipping sauce.  They were spicy and oh so good!  I ate a few and Tadd finished them off.

Next came our entrees - I had chicken and baked beans.  Tadd had the pork with mac&cheese (it is considered a vegetable in the South).   I didn't get a picture of Tadds lunch - he ate it too fast!  We both really enojoyed our sandwiches and my baked beans were the best I've ever had.  Not as much bbq sauce as some other restaurants.

Finally, Tadd was ready for dessert.  LEMON PIE!  I was lucky to get a photo of it before he devoured it!  He loved it.  He said it was better than the pie from Johnny Ray's (gasp!)

Overall, we really enjoyed Demetri's.  I am already trying to decide which Wednesday night we are going to head to Homewood for some Greek chicken.  (I kind of like chicken, a lot)

  1. I like it when I am pleasantly surprised like that and it seems to happen at the places that I might avoid on outward appearance alone. We had a recent experience with a tiny hole in the wall cuban place, that ended up having delicious, authentic cuban sandwiches and other dishes.

  2. Wow, what a feast. That sandwich looks fabulous.

  3. Ha ha, I love that you pointed out that mac n cheese is a vegetable in the South, so true.

Great BBQ joints are hard to find, so glad you found one you like.

  4. Hi Steph, All I can say is YUM... People don't realize that you can eat Barbecue and you can eat REAL BARBECUE..... Sounds like you found a JEWEL... Can't wait til you go back and try the Greek chicken.

    Enjoy your great weekend.
