Easy Slow Cooker Chicken & Gravy

I am a huge fan of crockpot meals, especially this time of year.  I don’t know about you, but I am really busy during the holiday season.  The last thing I want to worry about is dinner.   This recipe is super easy and tastes great. Chicken slow-cooked in chicken gravy mix, cream of chicken soup, and chicken broth. Serve the shredded chicken over rice and dinner is done. I used Uncle Ben’s Ready Rice, and dinner was ready in less than 5 minutes after walking in the door!  Can’t beat that any time of year!

How To Make Chicken & Gravy in the Crockpot

This Crockpot Chicken & Gravy is SUPER easy to make. Simply place the chicken in the slow cooker, Season the chicken with salt and pepper. I sometimes use garlic salt or seasoned salt instead of plain salt. Once the chicken is seasoned on both sides, whisk together the gravy packets and soup. Pour the soup over the chicken and cook.

Once the chicken is cooked, shred it with two forks right in the slow cooker. We like to serve the chicken over white rice. Feel free to use cooked brown rice, mashed potatoes, or egg noodles. Heck, you could even serve this over some Texas toast for a chicken & gravy sandwich. If you are eating gluten-free, I think this would be great over cauliflower rice or spaghetti squash.

I used chicken gravy mix. Feel free to use any packet of gravy mix you prefer. If you want a thinner gravy, add about ½ to 1 cup of water or chicken broth to the soup mixture. Adding some water/chicken broth is a great way to stretch the gravy. The slow cooker gravy is the BEST part of the whole recipe!

Comments

  1. Holy Moly!!! Soul food! I can’t believe something this easy can taste this good. Served over Mashed Potatoes with homemade biscuits. My husband was over the moon! Going in my “forever cookbook”!

  2. So this is gonna be a weird comment I don’t have any chicken breast or thighs but I have 2 cans of canned chicken would that work and how would I do that?? I really want to make this tonight!

    1. We make this all the time and sometimes use the canned shredded chicken. Tastes great, kids LOVE it! Over rice tastes good, but we prefer to put it over mashed potatoes.

  3. So pleased I found this! Always looking for easy ways to make dinner and this is such an easy one! I subbed a can of cream of mushroom cause it was all I had and I added some diced up bell peppers to give it a slight tang. It is cold and rainy out so I wanted comfort food that would be easy and the husband is tired of chili and soups! I will definitely try it over egg noodles as one suggested as that sounds like it would change the taste of the meal, make is seem like a different dish. Great recipe.

  4. I’m making this for dinner tonight and plan to serve it over egg noodles cause my littles don’t like rice or mashed potatoes (weird I know!). It smells amazing already! I doubled it because we have 6 to feed… 2 of those hungry teenagers. I doubled the entire thing but added a block of cream cheese just to add a little creamy-ness to it and subbed in 1 can of cream of celery because that’s what I had here. I also added a bunch of jarlic because we’re big garlic fans at our home and just a tad bit of diced onion that I already had diced and portioned out in the freezer. As another suggested I’m throwing in some baby spinach towards the end to add some veggies to it (we’ve had sweet peas already the last 2 nights). My other half is a night shifter so I always pack his food up for that night & the next night after I’m done cooking. Can’t wait to eat tonight and super glad I found it!

  5. Tasted great. Any recommendations on how to increase the amount of gravy, maybe more chicken broth and/or another can of cream of chicken?

  6. SAVORY BISCUIT HELP PLEASE! How do you get the savory biscuits like that? I have canned biscuits and want to make them savory to serve on the side. I already have my chicken in the crock pot, I used 80% of a can of chicken broth and can’t decide if I’m sorry I did or not – because it’s much thinner than the video. We shall see.

    1. The biscuits on the video are just refrigerated Pillsbury Grands biscuits. I also like to use frozen Pillsbury biscuits.

  7. It’s very yummy and simple to make. Enjoyed it. I used Cream of Mushroom soup because I could not find Cream of Chicken. It was YUMMO!!

  8. This is a go to recipe in my house. I use the cream of chicken with herbs soup and the regular cream of chicken soup and they both are out of this world.

  9. I made it and loved it. My mom and dad who are elderly would eat this once a week if I served it to them. Question: how can I convert this from a slow cooker to an oven? I ask because I don’t have my slow cooker with me at the moment. Would it be three hours at 325° in a glass casserole with a lid? Thank you. Anyone who wants to answer, I’d love to know.

    1. I’m so new here I don’t know where to place my question so maybe she will get it from my reply sorry Kim I’m not mean this to reply to your comment or ruin your comment I just don’t know where else to ask this should I brown the chicken first before I put it in the crock pot

    2. I’m here doing some caregiving for my elderly parents and my mom wanted something from a slow cooker so I spotted this chicken recipe and thank you for your review of it which makes me inclined to make it and I plan to do so this evening. It looks delicious. Will probably serve it over mashed potatoes because I think my mom would eat mashed potatoes every day! Lol.

    3. Agreed!

I just found this recipe this morning. I was looking for something I could make quickly for my family. Leave it all day in the crockpot, have a nice smelling house! Cannot complain. It is delicious!

We put the chicken and gravy on top of our mashed potatoes with a side of corn. Plus a buttered roll! Was a hit in the house with husband and kids!

  10. I love this recipe! I live alone, so I use one large chicken breast in my 2qt slow cooker and half the remaining ingredients. It makes quite a bit of gravy, but what is the problem in that? 😉

  11. Made this for my family tonight! Used chicken breast tenderloins and seasoned those with salt, pepper, and garlic and cooked on low for a little less than 3 hrs. Served over mashed potatoes with corn on the cob. Everyone loved it! Including my picky toddler!

  12. I had to cook my chicken breasts ahead due to dinner plans change. Froze the chicken the is shredded and chopped but am wondering if I can just make the delicious sauce after defrosting the chicken and warm through in a big stove pot on low? I’ll then use egg noodles, rice and possibly add peas depending on the Grandkid’s choices. Please give me your advice, I can’t wait to try this. Thank You, Grammy wanting to make ahead meals🙌😉

      1. I am making mashed potatoes & peas instead of rice. My house smells amazing right now & I can’t wait to serve this to my granddaughters tonight!

  13. Was in need of an easy, warm recipe for football Sunday in the middle of a snowstorm. Followed some comments and used thighs, added minced garlic and frozen peas and carrots for some vitamins. Cooked on high instead of low and kept an eye on it. Figured we had a couple of ways to serve, made some biscuits with it too but didn’t want it to feel like my chicken and dumplings(which is a very similar recipe). It tasted like my chicken and dumplings. The gravy packets didn’t do much, but it was a warm, hearty meal just as I needed. Thanks!

  14. I made this for dinner tonight and it was a definite win. I added a teaspoon of minced garlic, the juice of half a lemon and half a cup of reduced sodium chicken broth. Instead of chicken breasts, I used chicken tenderloins. Paired with brown rice it was a delicious dinner that will be enjoyed again tomorrow.

        1. It will have a ton of extra liquid and the gravy flavor won’t be as intense since you diluted it.

  15. Excellent. The only change I’d recommend is to double the batch. It is so satisfying and delicious and so easy to make. I served it with white rice and peas. I served 5 hungry adults and had just enough for my breakfast this morning.
I only had bone in skin on thighs so I had a bit more but well worth it in the end. I seasoned my dish with white pepper. You could add mushrooms and onions if you need. To do more, but it’s great as it is written.

    1. May be a stupid question, but if you double the recipe should you cook longer or just increase temp to high for 4 to 6 hours?

      1. I doubled the recipe and cooked it on low 8 to 9 hours. Chicken just fell apart. Aside from the ingredients. I also added a 1/4 cup of lemon juice, and 1 + 1, 1/2 table spoons of ‘Better than Bouillon ‘ beef flavor. Only because I didn’t have the chicken flavor. But you cannot even notice the beef at all. This recipe is amazing delicious. Hope that helps.

        1. So easy and so good! I put this on during my lunchbreak at work and had dinner when I got home. Doesn’t get any easier than this!

  16. I fixed this yesterday and it was a big hit. I started with frozen chicken breast tenderloin pieces and cooked on low for 6 hours. I added one envelope of onion soup mix since I only had one envelope of chicken gravy mix on hand, and it came out great.

  17. Chicken gravy was delicious! Approved by 3 teenagers who are picky eaters! Followed the recipe. Great dinner! Easy Peasy! Let the crockpot do all the work

  18. What size chicken breasts do you recommend? Also, I have an old time crockpot that just has numbers 1 through 4 for heating. What number do you suggest I use? I bought the crockpot at a yard sale and it has no book instructions and I am new to crock pot cooking 🙂 Thank you so much

    1. This is a really forgiving recipe. I just use 4 medium chicken breasts or 3 large chicken breasts. You want about 2 1/2 pounds of chicken. A little more or a little less is fine too.

You might Google your crockpot brand and see if you can find out what the settings mean. You might be able to find a manual online.

  19. Made this tonight – it was very good! Served over mashed potatoes. I do have a question, if I use your homemade cream of chicken soup mix – it says to make the soup with water on that recipe site to use in other recipes – is that what you have to do for this recipe also?

  20. I made this last weekend and it was fabulous! So very good that I am making it again this weekend! Perfect fall dinner! Thank you so much for this wonderful recipe.

  21. Can I double just the gravy portion and add potatoes like 2 hours before done? Or is it better with mashed potatoes?

    1. I put redskins and carrots in about an hour before finishing. I added a cup of chicken broth to keep vegetables submerged. It came out great.

  22. This is awesome! I’d love to use more chicken for bigger servings . My family loves this … how would I prepare with maybe 5-6 chicken breast in a 7qt crockpot ?
    I make this about 2-3 times a month now ! 😂😂

  23. This recipe is absolutely delicious. It’s so easy and has made it into my rotation, sometimes twice a week. Thanks so much and it’s cooking again right now 😃. I can’t wait. YUM

  24. I love this recipe, And best of all so did my husband! However, I have one issue, we cannot eat it all in one setting and he is not huge on leftovers. So, I was wondering, can this be frozen? And, if so, any advice on duration and reheating?

    1. I’m sure it can be frozen. To reheat it, thaw it in the refrigerator overnight and reheat on the stovetop or in the microwave.

      1. Love this recipe I learned something new add chicken gravy to the soup and boom you have a delicious gravy we have left overs so I’m going to cook up noodles And easy no oven
        Thank you
I also did this a pot roast I added dice onions 2cups beef broth and a Lipton onion gravy mix we had it over bake potatoes

      2. I’m thawing chicken breasts right now for this. Going to make it tomorrow, I can’t wait to try it, it looks delicious!! I may throw some veggies in it too, and serve it over lentil noodles, that way we’ve got our protein and veggies.

        1. You can totally put frozen chicken in crock pot ans cover with all the other ingredients. Then cook on low for 6hours and 1/2 way through just pull apart the chicken so it can cook through. It’s so yummy

    1. I thought about using pork gravy mix. I have had a recipe before that combined cream of chicken and pork gravy mix and it was fantastic.

    2. The first time I fixed this, I only had one packet of chicken gravy so I used one envelope of Lipton onion soup mix. It came out great, and now that’s how I always make it. The onion flavor adds just a little “kick” to the mild chicken flavors. In fact, it’s in the crockpot right now!

  25. Tried this for the first time almost two years ago figuring my picky kids would love it. I was right. I always double it and use 2 packs chicken gravy mix and two packs of turkey gravy mix and always go for the low sodium chicken broth. We make this at least once month and serve it over homemade mashed potatoes. Making tonight with savory herb stove top, carrots, and cranberry sauce on the side. Yummy!

  26. SO GOOD! I used 8 small boneless, skinless chicken thighs (family preference) and added a large jar of sliced mushrooms.
Great over rice, noodles, mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, toast…..

  27. Fabulous! I just made this for the first time and it came out great. I used Pacific Foods Gluten Free Cream of Chicken soup and two packets of McCormick Gluten Free Turkey Gravy (couldn’t find GF chicken gravy at my store) and added about a can and half of water (more than the recipe calls for) and it was perfect. The gravy thickened up and was perfect after 4.5 hours of cooking on low. Nice hearty meal with mashed potatoes, like a homemade turkey dinner taste without the hours of cooking!

  28. Ops. I threw the chicken broth and cream or chicken in separate without mixing it 😅😅 and sprinkled the gravy mix on top 🤭

    1. I’m making this in an instant pot because I’m in a crunch for time. I am cooking the rice separately and the rest of the ingredients in the instant pot. Can’t wait to see how it turns out!

  29. Absolutely loved this and it was so easy. A nice meal that’s fills in all the nooks and crannies. I only had turkey gravy to use but, I honestly think it would taste better with turkey gravy than the chicken gravy. I chose to put it on top of biscuits, next time I’ll try mashed potatoes. It was extremely salty from the gravy packets so, next I’m going to look for low sodium or sodium free. Thank you for the recipe.

  30. Oh my gosh it’s in the crockpot, got 45 minutes to go.. reading the comments while I wait.. Making mashed potatoes to pour it over and southern style biscuits on the side.
    Trying to be patient!

  31. This was my first time using a slow cooker to make anything. I wanted to start with something non threatening and this recipe had all the ingredients I had at home. I used frozen chicken from the bag defrosted and cut into smaller pieces. Turned out amazing! The chicken so tender. This recipe is a keeper!

  32. Hi! I cook for my gluten sensitive husband and I found a gluten free gravy from McCormick. To find it you do have to go to higher end grocery store. It taste delicious and faster to prepare the meal of course. Can’t wait to try the finished product.

  33. Made this exactly as the recipe states, with the broth, 4.5 hours on low and it was perfection. Creamy and warm and easy over white rice. Perfect for cold nights.

      1. It just depends on your slow cooker. You can check the chicken at 4 hours and keep cooking it if it isn’t done.

        1. Is there a certain temp. that the chicken needs to get to for it to shred?

      2. For me it took a little less than 4 hours on high with a smaller 4 quart size of crock pot and 4 large chicken thighs.

  34. We pour this recipe over Green Giant Riced Veggies, Cauliflower Medley, Frozen, 10 oz from war mart. We use no sodium or low sodium chicken broth. This is our first time making this recipe and we love it. We will have this real soon again.

        1. I haven’t made this in the pressure cooker, so I can not say. You will have to experiment on your own

  35. I had 5 lbs of frozen chicken that I had to use, so I brought out “the big” crockpot. Lol I used 3 envelopes of gravy mix, 2 cans of cream of chicken soup and 1 can of cream of enoki and Cremini mushroom soup (I didn’t even know Campbell’s made this!) I put about a 3/4 to a cup of chicken broth and about a cup of sliced mushrooms in, because I had them in the fridge. 6 hours on low, shredded it and added egg noodles to it. Family went crazy over it.

  36. I made this as it reminded me of the lunch lady meals when I was in 4th grade.
The recipe did not disappoint. Served it over mashed potatoes with a side of steamed mixed veggies.
    Will definitely make this again.

    1. My husband complains a lot when I try new stuff. He really liked it but said it would be better on mashed potatoes. Next time I will make those instead of rice. Thank you for a new recipe!

  37. I have made this recipe several times over the last year and pulled it out again at husband’s request. As written the recipe is SO GOOD! I prefer to use the Pacific brand of Cream of Chicken or Mushroom soup, Simply Organics Chicken Gravy mix, and Simply Organics French Onion Dip mix. This is just personal preference. I’ve made it using generic brands and other popular brands and the recipe is just as good. I like to double the amount of soup and add some stock to make a thinner gravy and add vegetables like mushrooms, peas & carrots, and cauliflower rice and use a mix of skinless, boneless chicken tenders & thighs. Husband loves it over rice and it’s really good with extra wide egg noodles. My in-laws had leftovers warmed and served over biscuits which is what I will try next as they raved about it. You really can’t go wrong with this recipe. I always have these recipe ingredients in my freezer/pantry in the Autumn & Winter months so I can pull a quick dinner together in the morning and have it ready by dinner time or make it the evening before and cook overnight so we have a hearty lunch for snowy days.

    1. First time making this recipe. My family loved it over mashed potatoes. Super easy and fast. I will make it again.

      1. Made this with only 2 chicken breasts, everything else the same, with just water; low heat for 4.5hrs, it was SO Delicious!! I actually went back for seconds which I rarely ever do LOL. COOKING THIS AGAIN TONIGHT, but I’m adding fresh mushrooms. 🤔

      1. I just made this but used two cans of soup by accident and it’s very watery how can I thicken it up? It’s been cooking for 6hrs.

  38. So easy to make and it simply takes amazing! My kids ask for this recipe all the time! They love it with mashed potatoes. Very budget friendly and easy to make.

  39. This recipe has filled my house today with a delicious smell. I just had a terrific Hot Chicken Sandwich. Excellent!!! I will make this again.

  40. My family loved this! I did add fresh broccoli in to cook with and it turned out a big hit!

  41. How would you alter this for cooking them in roasters so I could do a lot more for large gatherings? 🤗

  42. OMG. Just made this, I added fresh celery and carrots. Then I put the chicken and gravy over a kodiak cake waffle! So amazing! It’s a new household favorite!

  43. I’m waiting for this to finish cooking now! I’m going to put the chicken on top of a Kodak cake protein waffle

  44. Omg I so can’t wait to try this…I love crockpot recipes they are easy, delicious, and great for busy families!!! Thank you 😊

  45. Going to stray off the cuff a bit and add my own spices. Will comment again in a few days when itsa HIT ☺

  46. LOVE this recipe and how you can really customize. I add spinach to the slow cooker in the last half hour of cooking to get in some veggies for the kids. My whole family loves this.

  47. Followed the recipe exact minus serving over rice. Instead I boiled up finely chopped carrots, made my home made whole wheat pizza dough and made hand held mini pies by using a muffin tin. Kids loved it and my husband took the cold leftover pies for work. Next time I would add the carrots and some celery at the beginning of cooking and some frozen peas at the end.

  48. If I add the frozen vegetables, do I add them at the beginning and they cook for the same amount of time as the chicken, 5 hours?

  49. I’ve made this before, it was delicious! I am making it this weekend, double batch. I love it best over rice with some LeSeuer baby peas on the side lol. With the leftovers I am going to make a chicken pot pie. I’ll add some peas and carrots, thicken the gravy a little if needed, and bake it in a pie crust.

    1. I’ve never tried this in a pressure cooker, so I do not know what adjustments (if any) would need to be made.

    1. Made this today. Had Turkey gravy packet and only onion soup mix. Half a pack. I doubled the soup can. Added carrots. Sooooo goooood!!! My freeloading adult kids(lol), loved it!!! Also great over biscuits! Jk, I love those freeloaders!

  50. Very good and so easy! I served this over brown rice with a side of roasted sweet potatoes and broccoli. Next time I will try serving it over egg noodles. Can’t wait to make this dish again!

  51. I made this at work today, in the little kitchen of the theatre that I work out. It made plenty for 3 adults and we all loved it. Gonna double the recipe next time so I can have some leftovers!!

  52. Would it work to add the uncooked egg noodles to the crockpot and cook after the chicken is done? Or best to just do them on their own?

  53. This sounds great. Here is a flight for sides potatoes, package stuffing and cranberry sauce. Would be a great Thanksgiving meal for 2 and very affordable.

  54. Has anyone cooked this on high? Instead of low for 4-6hrs?
Was just wondering how long it would be on high, half the time? 2-3 hours? Just don’t want to over cook the chicken (it’s room temp)… But I’m making it now, and am starting it later then I would have liked to… Haha an would rather now eat dinner at 10pm tonight lol

    1. I am doubling my batch and plan on adding frozen mixed veggies (carrots, corn and peas) to the leftovers and serving over biscuits!

    2. I’ve made this before and was just thinking of using it as a base for chicken pot pie. I need to make a large batch for a party. It should be good I feel.

  55. This is the recipe my Grandson (16) reqests every year for his birthday and everytime Grandma asks him what he would like for dinner. BTW tomorrow is his birthday 😉

  56. I only have the packets of brown gravy on hand, do you think that would make an okay substitute instead of chicken gravy?

  57. I have done similar with beef and I sooo look forward to trying this chicken recipe. Looks great.
So would it be something I could drop some dumplings or biscuits on. If yes— towards the end after shredding the chicken?

  58. Trying this tonight for dinner for the first time and it already looks gooooooood! Can’t wait to try it with some biscuits. Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year!

      1. I’m not seeing how long to cook for ? Can I cook the chicken breast on high for 2-3 hours and it be done ? Don’t have enough time for 4-5 hours

    1. I did the same thing but doubled the gravy mix and used one can cream of chicken with herbs and one with mushrooms. Amazing!!

  59. Stupid question…I want to make this but I don’t have gravy mix. Only have a jar of turkey gravy. You think I could substitute? Or wait and go to store.

    1. I’ve only made this with the dry packet of mix. I can not say how it works with liquid gravy. You can certainly give it a try, but it won’t be like the recipe in the photos.

  60. I want to use frozen veggies (corn and peas) with this recipe. When do you add them to the crock pot?
also – thanks – Looks like a great and easy recipe

    1. You can add them at the beginning or about 30 minutes before serving – just depends on how soft you want them.

    1. This sounds so amazing. It’s in my crockpot
Now! Didn’t have chicken gravy. So trying with brown. I also added a little more than said for chicken stock. Wanted to use it up. Has anyone tried adding cream cheese to this?

  61. This was delicious. I’ve made it twice now anytime I miss comfort food here in China. It’s my substitute Thanksgiving meal since turkey is hard to find here. I will be trying more of your recipes.

  62. I used one huge, really huge chicken breast to serve my husband and me…so I used one can of cream of mushroom soup and one pack of turkey gravy mix, four and a half hours on low. When it was done I shredded/cut up the chicken and added a bunch of frozen peas and cooked for another fifteen minutes on high. Yummy on rice!

  63. I’ve made this several times now. It’s absolutely delicious, my husband and daughter love it too. Comfort food at it’s finest!

    1. I have only made this as written. You can certainly try it. As always, please use your best judgment regarding substitutions and modifications.

  64. This was a simple recipe to follow, smelled great while it was cooking, and everyone loved it. I used homemade cream of chicken instead of store-bought canned version. So good! My husband asked me to put this recipe into regular “rotation” for our family dinners.

  65. Enjoyed this chicken recipe, easy and tasty. I just added more chicken broth to the gravy. Will be having this chicken and gravy regularly. ( I did add some Montreal steak seasoning.)

  66. Hi. I’d like to send this with my husband to bring on a hunting trip. Can I mix everything up and put in crockpot so all he has to do is plug it in? I’d need to mix it up on Friday and he’d cook it Saturday. Will this be ok?

  67. Is there anything I could replace the cream of chicken with? I don’t have cream of anything. 🙁

  68. Steph,
Just ate my first serving of the Crockpot Chicken and Gravy. Yum! I WILL be making it again! I wonder if it would work as well if I cut the raw chicken into cubes (or nuggets) before dropping them into my crockpot. I only have an old, what I’ll call an “upright” crockpot – is that 3.5 quarts? Today I used chicken tenders, layering the first few facing one direction and the rest layered on top at right angles to the first. They seemed to cook fine (I used five hours on low) but stirring was almost ‘til the chicken was pretty well cooked. If the original pieces were smaller and I could stir in the gravy ingredients, all the flavors would be more evenly distributed. Whaddya think?

  69. Easy and great tasting recipe! I added spinach, celery an carrots to the dish at the end to give it some color and served over rice—-and it was a big hit with my husband and kids. Makes good leftovers and also goes well over egg noodles.

  70. This is a simple hearty recipe. I Love crockpot recipes. Makes life so much easier especially for working moms & grammas.

  71. I would love to make this for dinner tonight, but I only have cream of celery, not chicken. Would that ruin the recipe?

  72. I have eaten crockpot chicken for 60 years, and 3 generations and I can honestly say this recipe is the best tasting one of them all. Super easy to make, and very simple. This thanksgiving we are going to make this instead of our traditional turkey. I think the recipe is best when you add the cup of chicken broth which they list as optional’ Thank you for posting this. Great job.

  73. Can you freeze this after cooking in crockpot. I should have halved before cooking and now I have a TON of leftovers. Hoping it will save in the freezer???

  74. I’m usually not a “packet” type cook , but six months of cooking has opened my mind.
My family loved this so much. I left the slow cooker uncovered for a half hour or so after it was done to thicken it up. I served it with canned biscuits.

  75. This makes a great pie filling! We had some leftover and I stuck a shop bought puff pastry on top. It was delicious. This is now my preferred way of having it. Thanks for the great recipes!

  76. I wasn’t thinking and threw in two large boneless thawed chicken breasts. Instead of cutting them like in the video.
Will that change the cooking time? Or will the 6 hours be fine?

  77. What a great idea! But unfortunately, without further recipe testing, I cannot answer with certainty. As always, please use your best judgment regarding substitutions and modifications.

  78. Can you use something to make chicken gravy if you don’t have the packets? Trying to avoid the store.

    1. I don’t know. I’ve only made this as written. Since you are only using the dry mix and not actually making the gravy, I’m unsure of how to pull that off without further recipe testing. As always, please use your best judgment regarding substitutions and modifications.

  79. Hello the chicken breasts I have are pretty big so would you use 3 or 4? I just don't want to have too much chicken and not enough gravy! Thank you!

    1. Sounds like you should use 3 since you say they are really big. You can’t go wrong with either amount. So it would just be a personal preference.

  80. I've only made this with the packets of gravy. You can certainly try it with the canned gravy. I'm sure it will still taste fine.

  81. Making this tomorrow! I have 3 frozen chicken breast, so going to use 2 cans of soup and 2 packets of gravy and add in frozen veggies right away in the beginning. Do you think that the veggies will get too mushy in a crock pot for 8-ish hours? I could cook separately and add in later, but so much easier to do in the beginning.

  82. How would you double the recipe? I know that sounds like a dumb question but would you just double everything exact??? Thanks for any feedback 🙂

  83. This is absolutely wonderful. I was concerned about the gravy being too salty but it wasn't at all that way. I didn't break up the chicken into smaller pieces. just kept the pieces whole. Served the gravy over mashed potatoes. So easy and so tasty. This is a winner!

  84. I really want mushrooms… thinking of using 4 chicken breasts, a can of cream of chicken, a can of cream of mushroom and 2 gravy chicken packets?

  85. This was so good! I doubled the recipe and added some frozen mixed veggies. Served over homemade biscuits…we loved it!

  86. I make a similar recipe , one packet of onion soup, I can of mushroom soup , milk or water, chicken breast and crockpot till it shreds and we serve it over creamy mashed potatoes :} definatly gonna try this one :}

  87. I'd love to make this an all in one meal. I plan on making it today for some friends who have a baby who recently got hearing aides. They've been busy trying to help her adjust so the easier, the better. I wanted to add some vegetables, but what would you suggest? I was thinking carrots and peas at least..

  88. Haley – I think it would taste just fine with either Cream of Chicken or Mushroom. Enjoy!

  89. This looks delicious! I have one problem: I don't have chicken gravy mix! I only have mushroom gravy mix. How would that taste with Cream of Chicken OR Cream of Mushroom?
    Thanks,
    Haley

    1. I used my instant pot and shredded with a hand mixer. My chicken was frozen but it was done in 30 minutes. I cooked and shredded the chicken then added the other ingredients to let them warm.

  90. Making this tonight 🙂
One question: do you dilute the soup with water or milk as directed on the can or just leave it thick?
    Thanks 🙂

  91. Making this tonight! I've made several of your recipes and all were hits!
    I'm also a new follower!
    Blessings,
    Sarah 🙂

  92. This recipe looks GREAT, I am planning on making it for dinner tomorrow. Just one question, (might be a dumb one) but the gravy packet says to mix the contents with water, did you do that, or just dump the powder in with the chicken & soup?

      1. My experience is it just kind of dissolves but it wouldn’t hurt anything if you wanted to cut it off.

        1. It just depends on how soft you want the veggies. The longer you cook them, the softer they will be.

    1. Simple, easy and delicious. This was a big hit with my fiancé and he is a picky eater! I use one pack of HEB gravy and one pack of pioneer chickens and herbs gravy and cook for 6 hrs for maximum tenderness. Omg yum!!!

    2. Made this the other day, used healthy request soup and one regular and one reduced sodium gravy packet. I thought it was so-so right out of the crockpot but the leftovers were *amazing* a day and a half later. If you have time, make it ahead, especially if making it with less salt. Recipe will definitely be in my regular rotation! I was totally happy eating the chicken and gravy with just broccoli on the side, without rice or potatoes. Leftover chicken, if you’re lucky enough to have some, would definitely be great for chicken salad if you rinse off the gravy.

  93. If you want to feed 6-8 people do you just double everything? This looks so good and sounds so simple that it kind of scares me!!

      1. This recipe is simple to follow and absolutely delicious. I make mashed potatoes and veggies on the side and even the kids can’t get enough. Kid approved. Mom approved!

        1. Me too grandkids love it with mashed potatoes and string beans on side. Mima approved kids approved. 👍🏻

        1. I’ve never made this in the oven, so I can not say how it turns out. I am sure you could, but I do not have a time or temperature for you.

      2. If you double the recipe including the amount of chicken would you still cook it on low for 4 to 6 hours?

        1. Yes, anytime I cook chicken in the crockpot (Which is a lot!) I cook the chicken the same amount of time, does not matter the amount of chicken I am cooking. The only time that it would matter obviously is if the chicken didn’t all fit in the crockpot comfortably…..

        1. Keep in mind there is moisture that will come out of frozen veggies. May thin gravy. I personally would cook first then drain liquid before adding.

  94. I just tried this recipe for dinner and it was both delicious and simple!! My favorite kind of recipe. I have tried a number of your recipes and I'm never disappointed! I enjoy following your blog and look forward to new recipes everyday.

    1. So I am in the process of cooking this. I only had 1 pack of chick gravy on hand so I substituted a Turk gravy pack. I Plan on adding frozen pees & carrots at the end then serving over white rice. I’m anticipating good results! lol Thank you for the share! I will update 😉

    2. I followed the recipe to a T the first time. Although it was good, I felt it needed a little more flavor. The next time I tried this with one packet of chicken gravy and one packet of Turkey gravy. I also added about a half a packet of dry ranch dip, a little tarragon, uncle Chris’s seasoning and a can of veggies. Then served over orzo pasta! Delish!

  95. Kerry – I did mix the cooked rice in with the sauce after the chicken cooked, but you can just serve the chicken and gravy over the rice if you prefer.

  96. Just found this recipe, which looks lovely.

Kind of a dumb question, but is the rice going into the crockpot or are you serving the contents of the crock pot on a bed of rice.

The picture looks like the rice is mixed in the sauce, so I wasn't sure.

  97. muststartover – you could use frozen chicken. Just cook it a little longer – 7-8 hours. Perfect for a work day.

  98. Shannon – I used boneless skinless chicken breasts. Do not cook them before you put them in the crockpot. The crock pot will cook them for you. This made enough for 2-3 people – just depends on how big the chicken breast are.

  99. This looks delicious! These may be silly questions, but I'll ask anyway 🙂

Do you cook the chicken breasts first? I assume these are boneless, skinless chicken breasts.

Also, how many servings is this good for? thanks! 🙂
