Caramel Apple Dumplings

We had a pretty uneventful New Year’s weekend.  We ran some errands and ate at home all weekend.  We grilled steaks, made lasagna and had the most amazing dessert – caramel apple dumplings.  Now, these aren’t any apple dumplings, these are the most amazing apple dumplings ever!  Who would ever think that apples, crescents rolls and 7UP would bake up into this amazing soft, warm and crispy goodness?  So simple, but SO GOOD!
This really was one of the best desserts that I’ve ever had.   I could have eaten the whole pan by myself, but I shared them with Chicken Legs.  This would be a great dessert for a casual dinner party – just double the recipe.  I can’t imagine anyone that wouldn’t like this recipe.

Caramel Apple Dumplings
(Printable Recipe)

1 whole Granny Smith apple
1 can crescent rolls
8 caramel apple Hershey Kisses, cut in half (optional)
1 stick butter
¾ c sugar
½ teaspoon vanilla
Cinnamon, To Taste
½ can (6 Oz.) 7up or Sprite

Peel and core apple. Cut the apple into 8 slices each. Top crescent roll with an apple slice and two halves of the kiss. Roll up in the crescent roll. Place in a 9 x 9 buttered pan.

Melt butter, then add sugar and barely stir. Add vanilla, stir, and pour entire mixture over apples. Pour 7up or Sprite around the edges of the pan. Sprinkle with cinnamon and bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Serve with ice cream, and spoon some of the syrup from the pan over the top.
