Vegas Vacation

I spent the first part of this week in Vegas with Chicken Legs. We stayed at the Wynn, rode the High Roller and ate some of the best food in our lives! We ate at a couple of standard favorites and discovered some new places.
This was probably our best eating trip. Worst gambling trip, but the best food!
We stayed at the Wynn Resort this time around.
This was our second time to stay here.

Our room was great. We had a spectacular view of the golf course.
They had art from Jeff Koons on display.
The Popeye was $28.5M and the Tulips were $32M. Just a bit out of our price range.
They also had this carousel made completely out of flowers. It was so pretty. It was made by the famous flower designer, Preston Bailey. It has 110K flowers!
Grimaldi’s is one of our favorite pizza places in Vegas.
We ate lunch here after we checked into the hotel.
It is so fresh and delicious. We love that it is cooked in a coal fired oven.
I especially love the sweet Italian sausage and fresh mozzarella.

After doing some window shopping, we stopped in for Happy Hour at Table 10 (also in the Palazzo). You can’t pass up a glass of wine for $5.50 in Vegas! Table 10 is one of my favorite restaurants in Vegas. Their food is so delicious. We ate there in November and I’m still dreaming about my food. We are going to do dinner on our next trip.
Dinner was at another favorite spot at the Palazzo, Carnevino. We started with the Garganelli Bolognese – so good! For our entree, we split the Braised Short Rib over Carrot Puree and a side of Tuscan Fries. It was out of this world delicious!

Day Two started with lunch at B&B Burger & Beer. It is Mario Batali’s new burger joint in the Venetian.
We started with the Un Fried Mozzarella – delicious.
For our burgers, I got the Really Good Burger – potato bun, bacon and bleu cheese.
Chicken Legs got the burger of the day; a Steak Burger topped with a mascarpone and parmesan cheese mixture and a red wine onion jam.
We split an order of fries. It was all delicious!

I made Chicken Legs ride the new High Roller Observation Wheel. The High Roller is the world’s largest observation wheel. It is 550 feet high! It has the most amazing views of the strip.
Each car holds up to 40 people and it all glass. There are two benches in the car – one on each side.
Chicken Legs HATED this! He is scared of heights. He had sweaty palms and looked down on our way up. He was better as we started to go down.
I would love to ride this at night! Try and time your trip to be at the top of the wheel to watch the fountains at the Bellagio. It is so cool! Even Chicken Legs enjoyed that part.

Since Chicken Legs was such a good sport for riding the High Roller with me, I bought him some cupcakes after the ride. We stopped at Sprinkles. This was our first time at Sprinkles and we loved it. We got a Black and White cupcake and a Red Velvet cupcake. I loved the Red Velvet!

Dinner was at Carmine’s in Caesar’s Palace.
Chicken Legs loved this place. It had a old school NYC vibe to it.
Our waiter was super patient while we decided on what to order.
The portions are HUGE. They are meant to be served family style.
We started with the Spicy Scarpariello Wings – amazing! Spicy wings with a lemon sauce. I will be recreating these at home!
We wanted to try a pasta, so we got an order of Penne a la Vodka. Delicious!
There was WAY TOO MUCH food, but we really enjoyed it.
We need to take some friends with us next time!
I got my hair cut and colored at the Cristophe Salon in MGM.
This is my third time going. It is such a treat!
Kelly colored my hair and Campbell cut it. Both did a great job.
I am plotting my next trip back to Vegas just to get a hair cut.

Our friends, Melanie and Shelly, recommended Mon Ami Gabi. I knew it was ranked high on TripAdvisor, but we have never tried it. When Melanie and Shelly said it was their favorite Vegas restaurant, I knew we had to try it!

I started with the Paris
I told Campbell (my hair stylist) that we were eating lunch at Mon Ami Gabi, He said it was his favorite restaurant. YAY! He told me to get the mussels. He said they were amazing and to get an extra loaf of bread to soak up all the broth. Great recommendation – it was delicious.
For our entrees, Chicken Legs got the Steak Frites. It was topped with a pesto butter and tasted amazing. The fries were SO good. Thin and crispy.
I got the Ham and Cheese Crepes. Crazy good!
For dessert, we got the Le Grande Profiterole. It was stuffed with ice cream and drizzled with hot chocolate. It was heaven!
We rolled ourselves out of here and vowed to come back again soon!

The bartender at Olive’s recommended Peppermill to us. It is located next to Encore (a block or two down the strip). He said it was a must-stop in Vegas.
We walked in and it felt like we had stepped back in time. I felt like I was sitting in Elvis’ den.
We got there in time for Happy Hour. We tried the Creamsicle – so good and only $5.50!
We loved the fire in the middle of the bar. It was groovy.
This is a definitely a must see when in Vegas! We will be back!
Our final dinner was at SW Steakhouse in the Wynn.
It is the best steakhouse we have ever eaten in. Everything was amazing.
We were seated in front of the waterfall. Every thirty minutes they have a show on the waterfall.
They are interesting. Our favorite was the frog singing Garth Brooks. We might have sung along!
On to the food!!
The bread basket could have been our meal! They had pretzel rolls, bacon cheddar muffins and a baguette. The bread was served with butter topped with Hawaiian sea salt and extra virgin olive oil. I was in heaven!
We started with a crab cake and caesar salad. The crab cake was huge and all crab.
For our entree we split a filet and added bacon. The bacon was huge and delicious!
For our side, we got the Mac and Cheese. It had roasted poblano peppers and smoked bacon. I
t had a little kick to it. We loved every bite.
We couldn’t resist the funnel cakes for dessert. I loved the presentation!
The funnel cakes came with three sauces – chocolate, vanilla, and caramel.
We were absolutely stuffed, but it was SO worth it!

We had a great time on our vacation! We did other things besides eat.
We walked a ton!
3.8 miles the first day
10.4 miles on day two
6.6 on day three
My calves were killing me buy the time we left.
I am already planning our trip back.
There are so many restaurants we want to try.
We also want to see the new Cirque show at the Aria.

  1. Buca di Beppo by the food court of the Excalibur. SO GOOD and portions are for two people so its pretty resonable prices too.

  2. Via Brasil! Not within walking distance, but worth renting a car. MEAT ORGY! They bring giant slabs of meat to the table on spears and carve it onto your plate! And you must get a Caipirinha cocktail…sooo good!

  3. I've never been to Vegas and can't decide if I want to go. Of course the FOOD appeals to me, and some of the shows. But the casinos? Nope. Maybe I could just go and eat. YEP. Also? The funnel cakes cracked me up because they look like chicken fingers. Ha!

  4. I love reading your travel posts! That food, oh gosh, that food looked so delicious and your hair looks awesome too!

  5. Perfect timing! Our first Vegas trip is in a couple of weeks and I've been wanting some good places to eat. Thanks!

  6. Go to Hash House A Go Go in the Quad or the Plaza for breakfast. The portions are huge and you can easily split one. So yummy! Wolfgang Puck's Bar and Grill in MGM is really good and reasonable. I even saw him there once. Try Border Grill in Mandalay Bay. Looks like they are opening another location in the Forum Shops soon. I have been to the one in Vegas and the original in Santa Monica. Both were delicious!
