Baked Ham & Cheese Sandwiches in Foil

These Hot Ham and Cheese Sandwiches are a new favorite. Ham sandwiches baked with a savory butter spread slathered on the buns. It reminded me of our favorite Hot Party Ham Sandwiches, but with the yummy sauce on the inside of the sandwich instead of on top.

The sandwiches tasted SOOO good. Seriously delicious. This is our go-to ham sandwich recipe! I absolutely loved that the sandwiches could be made ahead of time and refrigerated until I was ready to bake them. Perfect for summer parties and tailgating this Fall!

How to Make Hot Ham and Cheese Sandwiches

These sandwiches are super easy to make. Start with making the savory butter by combining butter, onion, Dijon mustard, toasted sesame seeds, and Worcestershire sauce. To assemble sandwiches, spread the butter mixture on the cut surfaces of the bun tops and bottoms. Evenly divide the ham between the buns. Top each pile of ham with two slices of cheese and a bun top. Wrap each sandwich in aluminum foil and place it on a baking sheet and bake.

  • My favorite deli ham is Boars Head Virginia Ham.
  • I used Swiss cheese, but you can use any cheese that you enjoy.
  • Can swap the regular-sized hamburger buns for slider buns. You would need 12 slider buns.
  • These sandwiches are also good on Hawaiian rolls.
  • Sandwiches can be assembled ahead of time and stored, wrapped in foil, in the refrigerator up to twelve hours before baking.

What to Serve with Baked Sandwiches

As I said, these sandwiches were a HUGE hit at our house! We make them at least once a month. They are great for parties, potlucks, and tailgating. We usually serve the sandwiches with chips, coleslaw, and pasta salad. Here are a few of our favorite recipes from the blog that go great with these tin foil sandwiches:
