Easy Molasses Beer Bread

This Guinness Bread is the BEST beer bread I’ve ever eaten. This is great for breakfast or an afternoon snack. We especially loved the bread slathered with some honey butter!! We love beer bread in our house. It is super easy to make; It only requires a few simple ingredients and is ready to eat in about an hour. This recipe is a little different from my usual beer bread recipe. I added some molasses to the batter. The molasses adds a hint of sweetness and gives the bread a nice color.

How to Make Guinness Beer Bread

This beer bread is super easy to make. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Add molasses to the dry ingredients and stir. Mix in the beer, just until combined. Pour batter into prepared pan and pour melted butter on top of batter and bake. Remove the bread from the oven and cool on a wire rack before slicing with a sharp knife.

  • I used canned Guinness beer. It has the nitro cartridge in it and tastes like the beer right out of the tap. You can definitely use the bottled Guinness if that is what you prefer.
  • Feel free to sprinkle the top of the bread dough with some rolled oats.
  • How long does beer bread last? The bread will keep 4 to 5 days wrapped in plastic wrap and stored in the refrigerator.
  • Can beer bread be frozen? Yes! Bake the bread and let cool completely. Wrap the loaf in plastic wrap and place it in a freezer bag and freeze. The bread will keep up to 3 months in the freezer.

  1. Thank you for the great recipe!! The bread turned out amazing. I was out of molasses so I subbed honey. The butter poured over the top before baking ensures a supremely crispy & flavorful crust.

  2. Looks amazing. I bought a four pack of Guinness to make some beef stew, I only use one canned for the stew and ever since then I’ve been looking for recipes to use up the rest. I have 14.9 ounces cans of Guinness.

Can I substitute the molasses with honey if I don’t have molasses? Have you tried it with bread flour? I’m just trying to see if I can make it with what I have one hand, lol.

  3. Oh my goodness, that slice of break with the butter melting on it looks like pure heaven! I don't make bread a lot because I'll eat too much of it, but this is on my list to try!
