This Cracked Out Green Bean Casserole is THE BEST! OMG! SO good! If you are new here and don’t know what “cracked out” means, it is a combination of cheddar, bacon, and ranch. The flavor combination is totally addicting. I made a dip with these flavors way back in 2007, and I’ve been cracking out recipes ever since.

This green bean casserole can be made ahead of time and refrigerated until you are ready to bake it. You could even freeze it for later!

This makes a lot of green beans. It would be great for a summer cookout, potluck and holiday meal. If you don’t need to feed a crowd, you can cut the recipe in half or bake half and freeze half for later. We are both totally addicted to this easy casserole! We can’t get enough of the yummy cheddar, bacon, and ranch!! It is SO addictive!

  1. I made this over the holidays and was reserving my opinion until after I served it to my fiancé , he is the green bean lover, he absolutely went bonkers over this and said this is the bomb . He has requested this twice since then, We love it and I’m not even a green bean fan but I love these ,excellent recipe thanks so much for sharing.

  2. There is just two of us do you think that this recipe could be cut into I just don’t want to huge pan of green beans for two people

  3. I messed up my first review. LOL I kinda cut it off. Here's the whole thing! Green beans are one of the few veggies my husband likes, so I’m always looking for new ways to prepare them. Green Bean Casserole just so happens to be one of my favorite ways of enjoying them, and this cracked out version just might be my new favorite! Ranch, bacon and cheese are never a bad combo! This side dish is awesome with any meat entrée, and would make a great addition at a potluck dinner, or as they say here in Indiana, a Pitch-In Supper!

  5. Made this last night. My fried onion topping had gone rancid, so I topped it with panko stirred into melted butter. As for the Ranch Dressing – I buy the Ranch Dressing mix in a jar at Costco, so I guessed, and used 2 tablespoons of the mix We really enjoyed this! It was my first experience with your "crack" combination.

  6. My stove is currently out of order and want to make these for Thanksgiving. Can I throw all the ingredients in a crock pot and adjust the time?

  7. Any idea if this could be put together, except for the French Fried Onions, ahead of time then on the day of the meal spread the onions and bake?

    Thanks

  8. I absolutely LOVE this version of green bean casserole! I love all of your cracked out recipes. We are huge ranch and bacon lovers in this house.

  9. This looks like a great recipe! I'm wondering if you know if you could use almond, coconut or soy milk instead of buttermilk? My dad can't have dairy and I'd like to make this for Thanksgiving this year. Thanks!!

    1. I don't really cook with those dairy alternatives, so I can't say how it would turn out. I would think it would be fine, but I haven't tried it.

    2. Stir one tablespoon of lemon juice into one cup of lactose free milk. Do it yourself buttermilk. You could add vinegar if you don't have lemon juice – you just need one cup of milk and one tablespoon of acid.

  10. Thank you! That's def a different pkg than what I used. (Buttermilk). Solved.
    Lov your recipes!

    1. Unknown – to make buttermilk – add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar to 1 cup of milk. Let it sit for 5 minutes and then you have a quick buttermilk substitute

  11. Steph, I made this casserole yesterday. It was a bit salty. Your recipe calls for one – 1 oz packet of ranch powder. The packets I had read .4 oz which I used. Was this too much? We really liked the flavors!
    Please advise.
    Thanks!

    1. I use Hidden Valley Ranch Mix – those packets are 1 ounce. A 1 ounce package is 3 Tablespoons. If it was too salty, try cutting down the Ranch mix to 2 Tablespoons.

    2. Thank you! In all due respect, I have a hidden valley ranch packet here and it reads 0.4 oz. this packet makes 16 oz dressing. Maybe that is the problem. Just trying to be accurate.
It is good to know there are three tbsp in one ounce. I have the bottle of the spice so I'll start using that.
      Again, thank you.
