The Best Homemade Fluffy Waffles

I’m just gonna say that these Fluffy Waffles are seriously the best waffles ever! Even better than the Waffle House! The best part is that they are really easy to make and taste SO much better than a box mix! The key to getting super fluffy waffles is to separate the eggs and whip the egg whites until stiff. Folding in the egg whites gives the waffles a light and fluffy texture!! This is our favorite breakfast recipe for a weekend morning. I usually make a double batch because these things fly off the plate!

How to Make Fluffy Waffles Without Buttermilk

These waffles are super easy to make with only a few simple ingredients. In a large bowl, sift together all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. In a small bowl, whisk together egg yolks, milk, and vegetable oil. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir just until combined. In a medium bowl, beat egg whites with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the egg whites into the waffle batter. Pour the batter onto the preheated waffle iron and cook until crisp. Repeat with the remaining batter.

Helpful Tips & Frequently Asked Questions

  • Place waffles on a wire rack after they come out of the waffle maker. This will make sure you have crispy waffles. Nobody likes soggy waffles!
  • Sometimes I add a splash of vanilla extract to the batter.
  • Variations/Additions:
    • chocolate chips
    • blueberries
    • chopped pecans
    • a few teaspoons of vanilla extract
    • zest of one lemon
    • zest of one orange
    • substitute melted butter for oil for extra flavor
  • How many waffles does this recipe make? Well, that will all depend on your waffle maker.
    • I got about eight 7-inch waffles. My waffle iron doesn’t make super thick waffles. Just regular waffles similar to the Waffle House.
    • If you have a Belgian Waffle Maker, you will obviously get fewer waffles.
  • Can extra waffles be frozen? Yes! Cook the waffles and cool completely. Place the cooked waffles in a freezer bag and freeze.
    • You can reheat the waffles in the microwave, a toaster, or in a single layer on a baking sheet in the oven.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
