Pin This RecipeWhat is a Kentucky Hot Brown?
The Kentucky Derby is this Saturday. We are not big horse racing fans, but I love any excuse to whip up some Derby-themed food!! This Kentucky Hot Brown Quiche is a twist on the famous Kentucky Hot Brown Sandwich from the Brown Hotel in Louisville. In case you aren’t familiar with the Kentucky Hot Brown Sandwich, it is an open-faced turkey sandwich topped with mornay sauce, bacon, and tomatoes. This quiche has all the same flavors as the sandwich but in quiche form. I didn’t make a mornay sauce for the quiche; I just used some Swiss cheese instead.
How to Make Quiche
This quiche is very easy to make. Start with a frozen pie crust. Add some chopped turkey, bacon, chopped tomatoes, and swiss cheese to the bottom of the crust. Whisk together eggs, heavy cream, and sour cream. Pour over the turkey mixture and bake.
Can Quiche be Frozen?
You can make this quiche in advance and freeze baked or unbaked for later. I usually freeze my quiches unbaked, thaw and then bake them as directed below. But it will also work just fine baking it, thawing and reheating. To reheat after freezing, bake covered at 350ºF for about 30 to 40 minutes.
What to Serve with Quiche
This Kentucky Hot Brown Quiche is great for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. We’ve eaten it for each of those and it is always a hit. This would be great for your Derby watching party on Saturday!! All you need is a Mint Julep and some Kentucky Pie to finish off your party!
