Easy 3-Ingredient Chicken Marinade

We are totally addicted to this yummy Orange BBQ Chicken. It only has 3 ingredients in the marinade and packs a TON of great flavor!! Chicken, orange juice, brown sugar, and BBQ sauce. We always double the recipe and eat the leftovers in a wrap or on top of a salad during the week. The chicken is just as good, if not better, the next day! Give it a try this weekend. I promise you won’t be disappointed!

How to Make Grilled Orange BBQ Chicken

This dish is effortless to make. Whisk together orange juice, brown sugar, and BBQ sauce. Pour over chicken and let it marinate in the refrigerator for a few hours. When ready to cook, remove the chicken from the marinade and grill until it reaches an internal temperature of 165ºF. We like to brush the chicken with a little extra BBQ sauce right before we take it off the grill. YUM! It really bumps up the flavor.

  • You can use this marinade on any cut of chicken – breasts, tenders, thighs, wings, or drumsticks/legs.
  • You can use boneless or bone-in chicken. Adjust the cooking time to ensure an internal temperature of 165ºF.
  • My favorite store-bought BBQ sauces are Sweet Baby Rays, Stubbs, G.Hughes, and Williamson Brothers. I buy them all at Walmart.
  • Use a gluten-free BBQ sauce for a gluten-free dish.
  • I suggest pounding the chicken breast to an even thickness. We put the chicken in a ziplock bag and use a flat meat mallet to carefully pound out the hump. This ensures that the chicken cooks evenly and you don’t have juicy chicken and half-dry chicken.
  • I don’t have a grill. Can I cook the chicken in the oven or skillet? Yes! To cook the chicken breasts inside, pan-sear it for 3 to 4 minutes per side. Place on a rimmed baking sheet. Bake at 400ºF for 10 minutes.

  1. Hogsome! While we don't eat a lot of chicken at our house (we raise pork and beef), these were a huge hit. I marinated boneless skinless chicken thighs and they were devoured by all 3 of my boys! Next, I'm going to try it with pork cutlets! Thanks for sharing!

  2. Yum! This looks awesome — love that it's just four ingredients. And awesome that it marinades and gets a fresh coat on the grill too!

    1. That was a typo – I used all the marinade on the chicken and brushed plain BBQ sauce on the tenders before taking them off the grill
