Day Trip to Orvieto Italy with Adventures by Disney - cute Italian town between Rome and Tuscany. Great place to explore and grab lunch. The Orvieto Cathedral is one of the most beautiful and unique churches in all of Europe. Definitely want to check it out! #italy #travel #europe #orvieto
After our whirlwind stop in Rome, we hopped on our bus and started making our way towards Tuscany. We stopped along the way in Orvieto, Italy in the Umbria region.
Orvieto is a super cute little town. Our tour guide said there are about 20,000 people that live in town. It was a great place to stop and explore for a few hours. Orvieto has one of the most beautiful churches I’ve ever seen! You have to see these photos!!!
We also had an amazing lunch. Everything was homemade – the wine, the pasta, the olive oil and the balsamic! Crazy good!

The Maurizio Tower is one of the first things you see after climbing to the top of Orvieto.

Orvieto is a cute little Italian town. There are lots of cute shops.
I loved this alley way.

Here is another view of The Maurizio Tower.
The bell ringer, named Maurizio, is made of bronze.
He continues to ring the bell, very precisely, every hour on the hour.
The highlight of Orvieto is the Cathedral.

Orvieto Cathedral is a Roman Catholic Cathedral.
It was started in 1290 and completed in 1591.

It is constructed with travertine and basalt – that is what gives it the stripes.
The travertine is white and the basalt is blue/gray.
The front of the church is a masterpiece!

Notice the Coronation of the Virgin mosaic on the top gable of the cathedral.

The interior of the cathedral is just as impressive.
I just loved the striped stone!

The large stained-glass window in the apse was made between 1328 and 1334 by Giovanni di Bonino, a glass master from Assisi.

Chapel of the Madonna di San Brizio was a 15th century addition to the cathedral.

The artwork in the chapel is amazing.

After walking around this cute town, we had a private lunch at Ristorante Maurizio.
It is located right next to the church.

We started off with some meat and cheeses.
We also sampled several of their homemade balsamic vinegars.

Next was the pasta. OMG! SO good!
Homemade and the tomatoes in Italy are the BEST!!
I wish I had a plate of this pasta right now.

After pasta was chicken and vegetables.
The chicken didn’t look like much, but it was super delicious.
It tasted like it was baked in olive oil and parmesan. I wanted to lick the plate.

Finally CAKE!!!

I would describe this as a yellow cake with a cannoli type filling.
Really good.
If you find yourself in Orvieto, I highly recommend eating here.
It was delicious.

We grabbed a gelato on our way out of town!
There is always room for gelato!
Delizioso!!
Next stop – TUSCANY!!!
You don’t want to miss next week’s post!
Tuscany was everything I dreamt it would be. It was my heaven on earth!
