Green beans are one of our favorite weeknight side dishes, so I am always looking for new ways to prepare them. These Teriyaki Green Beans are some of the best we’ve eaten! Fresh green beans, mushrooms, shallots, garlic, teriyaki sauce, sesame seeds – YUM!!! Sometimes I double the recipe so we have leftovers for lunch during the week.

skillet of mushrooms and green beans

These green beans are super easy to make. Start with melting some butter in a skillet. Add the green beans, a shallot, and some mushrooms. Cook until the vegetables start to soften. Add some fresh garlic and cook until it is fragrant. Finally, add the teriyaki sauce and some sesame seeds. That’s it!

I used fresh green beans in this recipe. I’m sure you could substitute a couple of cans of green beans if you prefer. It will save you some time by not having to trim and chop the fresh green beans.

We serve these green beans with just about everything. Grilled steaks, chicken, pork, casseroles – you get the idea. This is a very versatile side dish. The best part about this recipe is that it only takes about 15 minutes from start to finish. Here are a few of our favorite recipes from the blog that go great with this easy side dish:

  1. I thought this was really good but my husband thought that teriyaki was a little overwhelming even though teriyaki is one of his favorite things so go figure

  2. So good and SO easy. I served it as my main meal over rice, and added a little extra sauce for the rice. Had some edamame as a side for protein. Probably could have just thrown it in with the green beans too. I forgot the garlic AND sesame seeds (one of those days….) and it still tasted great.

  3. Super excited to try this and thinking about adding some chicken or steak to make this a one dish meal. Thanks for sharing! I know what’s for dinner tonight!

    1. I just would like to know if you could use Frozen Green Beans? I’m making the Teriyaki Green Beans recipe..

  4. What a great recipe! I made them for Thanksgiving in place of the usual green bean casserole, and they were a hit. They were a lovely presentation and a delicious change of pace. I’ll make them again- soon!

  5. They were great.. I did cook them longer, husband wants them cooked a little more; I also so adjusted the season to OUR taste.. Oh yeah, I was out of seeds……..Great jumping off recipe! Make it what you and your family like.. And. Yes, I am aware that many of you will say we don’t know how.. That’s ok, just keep trying…

  6. What kind of Teriyaki sauce do you use and how many cans of green beans if you don't have fresh??? Thanks for all the yummy recipes you post for us!

    1. I used Kikkoman teriyaki sauce. I have not made this with canned green beans, so I can not answer with certainty how many cans to use. As always, please use your best judgment regarding substitutions and modifications.

  7. These green beans look amazing!! Green beans are my absolute favorite!! We eat them at least 4-5X per week. I'll need to try these soon. I'm sure my husband will appreciate a little variety! 🙂
