Air Fryer Steak Recipe

Do you have an air fryer? I am completely obsessed with my air fryer. It is AMAZING! I actually have two air fryers. I know – crazy! Air fryers are great for just about everything – chicken, pizza, fries, frozen snacks, and even steaks. Yep. You can cook a steak in the air fryer! It is so simple and tastes amazing! Perfect if you don’t have a grill or don’t want to fool with setting up the grill.

We always marinate our steaks before cooking. We typically use Dale’s Steak Seasoning or some soy sauce and Worcestershire. This time I went for a simple Greek-Style marinade. It gives the steak the best flavor!

We typically cook our steaks on the grill or on the stove and finish them off in the oven. Since ribeyes are so fatty, they are perfect for the air fryer. No grill flare-ups or smoking up the kitchen! They also take less time than cooking on the grill. In less than 10 minutes, we had a tender and juicy ribeye steak dinner. This has quickly become our go-to steak recipe!

What is an air fryer?

An air fryer is basically a countertop convection oven. It circulates air around the food for faster cooking. The rapidly circulating air makes the food crispy, much like deep frying but without the need for oil. You also don’t need to preheat the air fryer, making cooking in the air fryer much faster than cooking in the oven.

How to Cook a Steak in the Air Fryer

Season the steak with your desired seasoning. We used a quick greek marinade for our steaks this time. In a small bowl whisk together olive oil, lemon, garlic, oregano, salt, pepper, and a dash of red pepper flakes. Pour the mixture over ribeye beef steaks and refrigerate for a few hours to overnight. Remove the steaks from the marinade. place the steaks in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Turn temperature to 400ºF and cook for 7 to 10 minutes, until you reach the desired doneness. A thicker steak will take longer to cook. Remove steak from the air fryer and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing.

Tips & Frequently Asked Questions

  • What Air Fryer brand do you recommend?  I have the Philips XXL Air Fryer and the Philips XL Air Fryer. I love them both, but I definitely recommend the Philips XXL Air FryerIt is larger and can cook an entire meal at once.
    • The basket in the Philips XL Air Fryer measures 7.5×7.5×3-inches
    • The basket in the Philips XXL Air Fryer measures 9x9x3-inches
  • Do I need to preheat the air fryer? No. You can preheat it for a few minutes if you like, but it isn’t necessary. Just season the steak, place it in the air fryer basket and cook until it reaches the desired temperature.
  • Do I need to flip the steaks? There is no need to flip the steak while it is cooking. The air fryer circulates the hot air around the food for you.
  • You do not need to use any marinade or seasoning on the steaks. You can simply season the steaks with salt, pepper, and garlic powder if you prefer.
  • Do I need to bring the steaks to room temperature before cooking? You can but it is not necessary. The idea of cooking steak at room temperature is that it will cook more evenly. While that is true, the difference in cooking a room temperature or cold steak is minimal.
  • Can I cook frozen steak in the air fryer? Yes! Season the steak with your desired seasonings and place in the air fryer. Cook the steaks for 15 minutes and check the internal temperature with an instant-read meat thermometer. Cook for an additional few minutes to reach your desired internal temperature. Let the steak rest 5 minutes before slicing.
  • Store any leftover steak in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

How Long to Cook a Steak in the Air Fryer

The cooking time is going to vary depending on the thickness of the steak. The times below are an average cooking time for a one-pound steak. Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. Pull the steaks from the air fryer when they are 5ºF below your desired temperature. The steak’s internal temperature will continue to rise after it is removed from the oven.

  • Warm Red Center – Medium Rare – 130ºF
  • Pink Center – Medium – 140ºF

What to Serve a Steak Dinner

We LOVE this easy recipe. This cooking method results in a juicy steak every single time. Top the steaks with a dollop of garlic butter or blue cheese butter for a fancy steakhouse experience. We like to serve this with some potatoes and a salad. It is also delicious with some roasted vegetables and keto biscuits for a low-carb meal. 1. My air fryer has 3 racks, not a basket. Would the juices dripping away from the steaks instead of absorbing into them in a basket mean I should not try this in my current air fryer?

  2. Medium Rare Ribeye is the perfect food – looks amazing – will definitely try this in my air fryer this weekend!
