The BEST BBQ Grilled Pork Tenderloin

This Orange Chipotle Grilled Pork Tenderloin is crazy good! It is also super simple! Only 4 ingredients including the pork tenderloin! Orange juice, BBQ sauce, chipotle chili powder, and pork. I like to let the pork marinate overnight to achieve maximum flavor. If you don’t have that long, just let the pork marinate in the refrigerator as long as possible.

How to Grill Pork Tenderloin on a Charcoal Grill

Pork tenderloin is very easy to grill at home. They only take about 12 to 15 minutes to cook on the grill. You have to watch the internal temperature so you don’t overcook them and dry them out.

We grill on a charcoal grill. My number one tip when using a charcoal grill is to use a charcoal chimney starter instead of lighter fluid. Lighter fluid completely overpowers the food. You end up tasting lighter fluid instead of the yummy pork. If you haven’t used a charcoal chimney starter, it will change the way you grill on charcoal. Here is a link to a video on the website to show you how easy it is to use a charcoal starter – https://www.plainchicken.com/grilling-101-how-to-use-charcoal-starter/

What Temperature to Cook Pork Tenderloin?

Pork is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 145ºF. I like to pull the pork off the grill when it reaches 145ºF and let it rest for about 5 minutes. The pork will be slightly pink but not raw. It is 100% safe to eat pork with a blush of pink.

Here are the internal temperatures for pork. Make sure to pull the pork off the grill on the lower end of the temperature range. The pork will continue to cook once it is off the grill and the internal temperature will rise about an additional 5ºF.

  • 145-150ºF – Medium Rare
  • 150-155ºF – Medium
  • 155-160ºF – Medium Well
  • 160ºF plus – Well Done

  • Prepare grill. Remove pork from marinade. Discard marinade.
  • Grill pork until internal temperature reaches 145°F, approximately 12 to 15 minutes. Let rest 5 minutes before slicing.

Notes:

Trim tough silver skin from pork tenderloin before marinating.

145-150ºF – Medium Rare
150-155ºF – Medium
155-160ºF – Medium Well
160ºF plus – Well Done
To cook pork without a grill, in a skillet or grill pan, sear pork tenderloin for 2 minutes on all sides. Transfer the skillet to the oven and cook at 400ºF for 10 to 12 minutes, until an instant-read thermometer stuck in the thickest part of the meat reads 145°F. Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes before slicing.

My favorite BBQ sauces are G. Hughes, Sweet Baby Rays, Stubbs, and Williamson Brothers.

  1. What about tossing it in the crockpot to be ready when it get home? Do you think it would work well shredded over rice?

  2. Wouldn’t the marinade be safe to pass as a sauce if you boiled and reduced it? (Or would it just taste icky after having sat all night?)

  3. This is going to be a new go to recipe at my house. I marinated the pork 8 hours and my husband grilled it to perfection, 150 degrees throughout. Everyone raved, this was delicious and easily fed 8 adults. I used Dinosaur BB! slathering sauce but I think any BBQ would work well. I didn't have chipotle paprika so I used 1 tsp of chipotle seasoning and 5 tsp paprika. Delicious!
