Best Grilled BBQ Chicken Recipe

Best Grilled BBQ Chicken Recipe - seriously delicious! The chicken is marinated in a simple vinegar-based homemade bbq sauce made with olive oil, cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire, ground mustard, onion, garlic, chili powder, salt, pepper, and hot sauce. Leftovers are great on top of a salad or in a wrap. Next time I am going to double the recipe. This didn't last long in our house! #chicken #grilling #grilledchicken #bbqchicken

The BEST BBQ Grilled Chicken

This is hands-down the BEST BBQ Grilled Chicken we've eaten. The chicken is marinated in a simple vinegar-based homemade bbq sauce made with cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire, ground mustard, onion, garlic, chili powder, and hot sauce. I'm not a big vinegar fan, but it totally works on this chicken. We brushed the chicken with some of our favorite bottled BBQ sauce before taking it off the grill.

This chicken is delicious! We both took one bite and were blown away. SO much amazing flavor! We ate this for lunch and leftover for dinner. I wish I had doubled the recipe! The leftovers are great on top of a salad or in a wrap. I guess I will just have to make this chicken again this weekend! YUM!

How to Grill BBQ Chicken on Charcoal

My number one tip for grilling chicken on the grill is to pound the chicken to an even thickness. We like to place the chicken breasts in a ziplock freezer bag and use a flat meat mallet to pound the chicken to an even thickness. Having the chicken at an even thickness will allow the chicken to cook evenly. No more half juicy, half dry chicken!

We use a charcoal grill and a charcoal chimney starter for grilling chicken. Do you use a charcoal starter? OMG! It is the only way to light charcoal. It is so easy and the charcoal doesn't leave any taste on the food. I hate when we go to someone's house and they grill with lighter fluid. I can taste it on the food. Using a charcoal starter avoids that! You only taste the yummy food! Here is a link to how we grill and use a charcoal starter with a video: https://www.plainchicken.com/2014/05/grilling-101-how-to-use-charcoal-starter.html

Chicken breasts will take about 12 to 15 minutes on the grill. It will just depend on the size of the chicken breasts. If the chicken is pink, it isn't done. Use a meat thermometer and make sure the internal temperature is 165ºF. You don't want undercooked chicken!

How to Grill Chicken in the Oven

How do you make this chicken without a grill? My preferred indoor cooking method for chicken is to pan sear the chicken breasts in the skillet for 3 to 4 minutes on each side and then finish it off in the oven at 400ºF for 10 minutes. You can add a drop or two of liquid smoke to the marinade if you want to give the chicken the smoky grill flavor.

  1. How long do you marinade the chicken before cooking?

    1. I would assume it must be at least 1 hour? Maybe max out at 4 hours? That should do it for you.
