How to Make Spaghetti Casserole in the Slow Cooker

As I said, this Slow Cooker Spaghetti Casserole is super easy to make. Start with browning your meat. You can use Italian sausage, ground beef, ground turkey, or a combination of them all. Whatever you prefer. Once the meat is cooked, you can assemble the casserole.

Combine the cooked meat with a jar of your favorite spaghetti sauce, water, some diced tomatoes, and Italian Seasoning. Place half of the meat mixture in the bottom of the crockpot. Top the sauce with uncooked spaghetti noodles. Top the noodles with the remaining meat sauce and top with cheese. Cover the crockpot and cook on LOW for 4 hours.

You can brown the meat ahead of time and assemble the casserole when you are ready to cook it. Feel free to add a layer of ricotta or cottage cheese to the casserole. I think it would take this casserole to the next level! Spread the cheese on top of the pasta before adding the second layer of meat sauce.

    1. My guess is yes, but I’ve only made this as written, so I can not say if any adjustments would need to be made.

  1. We usually have a large group with our pot lucks and I probably could get away with doubling every in the recipe but I’m not sure if there would be room in my six quart slow cooker. When you make your single batch, is there enough room for a second batch in your machine? Just trying to get an idea, I don’t like to waste.

  2. Made this in my regular oblong slow cooker it was great. We recently received a 9×13 inch ‘casserole’ slow cooker. Do you think this recipe would work in this? Thank You.

  3. Best way to cook spaghetti. I used mild sausage and ground beef w/ mine it turned out great. Thank you for sharing this recipe

  4. I did realize if pasta is not covered completely by the meat mixture it gets very hard so make sure it is covered. I think that is why it does need to be broken.I also did not like the cheese choice. I used Monterey Jack mix melted better. I used spinach pasta. I only used ground sausage very good.
Can this be frozen after it is cooled?

  5. I followed the recipe and it turned out great! I often come to this website for supper ideas and it don’t disappoint! I have made several of your recipes and they are easy to follow with simple ingredients and everything tastes wonderful!

  6. If you make it the day ahead how do you reheat it? In the crockpot or transfer to another dish or pan and for how long?

  7. Just wondering if you have every tried making it with frozen meatballs…I am guessing it would alter the cooking time…

    1. Has anyone tried doubling the recipe? I’m wondering if the cooking time has to be extended and for how long?

  8. Have you tried making this the night before and then heating it up in the crockpot the next day? Just wondering how it would do.de

  9. Why do I have to break the spaghetti into thirds. I like to twirl my spaghetti. I would prefer to keep the spaghetti whole if possible.

    1. I just made this for my family and it was delicious! I’d like to make it ahead of time and just give to my friend (meal train). She’ll need to bake it in the oven instead of the crockpot. Do you have any suggestions? How long should I tell her to cook it and at what temp?

    1. I have not made this with gluten-free spaghetti, so I can not say with certainty how it would work. If you have had success with gluten-free pasta in the past, you can give it a try. If you do try it, let us know how it works.
