How to Make Brunswick Stew

This Brunswick Stew is very simple to make. Start with browning some smoked sausage in a Dutch oven. Once the sausage is browned, add the remaining ingredients bring to a boil and simmer for about 30 minutes to an hour. SO easy!

I used rotisserie chicken for the cooked chicken in this Brunswick Stew. It makes prep super quick! For the pulled pork, I used Costco pulled pork. You can use any cooked pulled pork you like. With or without BBQ sauce - either is fine.

If you are making this Brunswick Stew after the holidays, feel free to swap the chicken for some leftover turkey. This is a delicious way to use up some of that leftover turkey!

Make Brunswick Stew in the Slow Cooker

You can make this Brunswick Stew in the crockpot instead of the stovetop. Brown the sausage and dump everything in the crockpot. Cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours. You can also cook it on HIGH for 3 to 4 hours.

Can Brunswick Stew be Frozen?

The leftover Brunswick Stew makes a great freezer meal. Cook the stew and let it cool. Pour the soup into some gallon freezer ziplock bags and freeze. When you are ready to serve the soup, thaw and reheat in the microwave or on the stove.

  1. Steph, this is a great stew but once a year I make it the old fashion way using critters like squirrel, opossum and rabbit during the hunting season. I realize 95% of your readers would never attempt this version but it is a South Georgia tradition that can be addictive.

    1. Original Ohio Hillbilly here...you brought back memories! My Uncles made a sweet stew with Rabbit and Sausage. I am sure it was their version of this recipe.

  2. I would love to try this recipe. I assume we are using precooked pulled pork and apple cider vinegar? Thank you

    1. I believe all pulled pork would be precooked. I used white vinegar.
