Easy Peruvian Chicken
This recipe is from a friend of mine. She made this Peruvian Whole Chicken and posted it on Facebook. She couldn’t stop raving about how tender and juicy the chicken was. I immediately asked for the recipe! OMG! Let me tell you, this chicken is AMAZING! Loaded with tons of great flavors and super easy to make in the air fryer.
How to Air Fry Whole Chicken
Cooking a whole chicken is very easy in the air fryer. I started with seasoning the chicken with a blackened Peruvian marinade made with oil, lime juice, sugar, cumin, smoked paprika, oregano, garlic, salt, and pepper. Brush the marinade all over and inside the chicken. Next, tie the wings and legs with some kitchen twine. Place the chicken in the air fryer basket and bake.
I placed the chicken in the air fryer belly side down and flipped it over midway through the cooking time. This will help get all of the skin nice and browned.
The chicken needs to cook until it reaches an internal temperature of 165ºF. Use a meat thermometer to check the temperature. You may need to adjust the cooking time depending on the size of your chicken and your brand of air fryer.
What to Serve with a Chicken Dinner
This Air Fryer Whole Chicken was a huge hit at our house. We almost finished the whole thing for lunch between the two of us. It was so tender and juicy. Leftovers are great chopped up for a chicken salad sandwich or in an easy chicken casserole. We served this with some potatoes and green beans. Air Fryer Whole Chicken
Equipment:
Ingredients:
- 1 (3½-lb) whole chicken
- 2 Tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 Tbsp lime juice
- 2 tsp sugar, optional
- 1½ tsp cumin
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
Instructions:
- Pat the chicken dry with a paper towel. Combine the remaining chicken ingredients in a small bowl and coat the chicken with the mixture.
- Tie the legs together with a piece of cooking twine. Tie the wings against the breasts with another piece of twine.
- Place chicken belly side down in the air fryer basket.
- Set air fryer to 350ºF. Cook for 25 minutes.
- Turn chicken over and cook an additional 25 minutes, until internal temperature reaches 165ºF.
- Let chicken rest 5 to 10 minutes before carving.
