Best Roast Beef Sandwiches

These Awesome Sauce Roast Beef Sandwiches are AWESOME! They might be my favorite roast beef sandwich of all time. Hawaiian rolls stuffed with deli roast beef tossed with hot sauce, teriyaki sauce, and honey mustard, topped with cheese and baked in a sweet and spicy glaze. The sliders are super easy to make and are bursting with great flavor. They are perfect for parties, tailgating, lunch, or dinner.

What is Awesome Sauce?

Awesome sauce is a combination of hot sauce, teriyaki sauce, and honey mustard. The idea came from a sandwich I ate at a local sports bar. The sauce was so good. I asked the waitress what was in it. She asked the cook and came back with the ingredients. I finally got around to recreating the sandwiches at home, and I have to say that my version is better than the original!

How to Make Baked Roast Beef Sliders

These sandwiches are super easy to make with only a few simple ingredients. In a small bowl, stir together hot sauce, teriyaki sauce, and honey mustard. Set aside. Using a sharp serrated knife, cut Hawaiian rolls in half and place the bottoms in a baking dish. Toss thinly sliced deli roast beef in some Awesome Sauce. Place the meat on top of the rolls. Top with cheese and the roll tops.

In a small saucepan, melt butter, brown sugar, Awesome Sauce, and some Everything Bagel Seasoning over medium-high heat. Cook just until the sugar dissolves. Pour the sauce over the tops of the roast beef sandwiches and bake.

Helpful Tips & Frequently Asked Questions

  • I used freshly sliced roast beef from the deli. I prefer Boar’s Head London Broil. Ask them to cut “shaved” so it is super thin. You can use any thickness you prefer.
  • Can use more roast beef on the slider buns if you prefer.
  • I used Frank’s Hot Sauce. You can use Frank’s Wing Sauce or Crystal’s hot sauce.
    • This recipe uses a thick teriyaki sauce. I used Sweet Baby Ray’s.
    • For the honey mustard dressing, I used Ken’s.
  • I prefer to use white American cheese because it melts really well. Feel free to substitute mozzarella, provolone, or white cheddar slices.
  • Can I make these sandwiches in advance? You can assemble the sliders ahead of time and refrigerate until ready to bake. I suggest making the sauce right before baking the sandwiches. The rolls might get soggy in the refrigerator overnight.
  • Cover the sandwiches with aluminum foil for softer buns.
  • Are the sandwiches spicy? We did not think the sandwiches were spicy. If you are worried about the heat from the hot sauce, please adjust it to your personal preferences.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge.
    • Reheat in the microwave or covered with foil in the oven.

Comments

  1. Made these for a Super Bowl party and they were the hit of the night. Made exactly as written and barely even detected the flavor of the hot sauce, in case anyone is wondering if it’s too much. So much flavor in these little sliders! 10/10 would recommend!! Thanks for a great recipe 😊

  2. My family (my 90 yo dad, my dear friend who is 73, my husband and myself) just finished our second experience with this recipe. Both times we spent at least 10 minutes after dinner, sitting around the table talking about how good it is, how the flavors meld together so wonderfully.
The first time I used thinly sliced leftover steak. This time I used leftover meat from a slow cooker chuck roast. Both meats worked so well with the sauces.
The first time I made it, I hesitated to pour the sauce over the sandwiches before putting in the oven. I’m so glad I poured that sauce on!
Thank you for what is now a family favorite. So delicious!

  3. These r amazing sandwiches! My husband and I enjoyed them completely! I made one mistake though. I used sriracha instead of something like Frank’s. Don’t use sriracha! It makes them so spicy. Even though they were so spicy though, my husband and I loved them! The brown sugar caramelized on the tops of the buns and made them so so so good! This is a keeper!

  4. I made these tonight and they were a hit. Two of my girls that doesn’t like roast beef actually loved these little sandwiches. I did leave out 1 tablespoon of the hot sauce for the family members that doesn’t like the heat. They weren’t spicy at all. Thank you for sharing this recipe.

  5. Wow! This was amazing. It was a little too hot for me. I’ll probably use half the hot sauce next time. But, I will definitely make again.

  6. If I could give more than 5 stars I would cause these are indeed AWESOME! Even as leftovers they are good. I’ve already made just the sauce and poured it over boneless skinless chicken & baked it. That was really yummy! One of my friends used ham since she doesn’t like roast beef & she loved them. Need to make these again!

    1. I’m a wimp when it comes to hot stuff. I just add the hot sauce to the roast beef & omit it on top. Scale it back so it isn’t as hot for your taste buds.

  7. These are SO tasty and easy to put together! Had all the sauce ingredients on hand already. They were a hit with all four of us and we each have one more for lunch tomorrow. Looking forward to it already!

  8. Hi dear, I absolutely loved this recipe I have sent it to my kids, my sister and friends. Thank you so much. I have also made it using 1 1/2 pounds ground beef and 1 chopped onion and 1 pound mushrooms sautéed under browned and drained, in place of roast beef. Thanks again!

  9. Delightful little sandwiches!! I didn’t put as much hot sauce (1 T. In the beef mixture, 1 t. In the sauce) as the recipe calls for because I was mainly making them as an “extra” dish for the grandson who doesn’t like chicken. Well, to see his little face (he’s four) happily munching those little beef sandwiches, even though he did pull the top off and just ate the beef, cheese and bottom half along with the rest of his dinner made my heart happy. 😊
Everyone that tried one, came away with eyes popped and and “WOW! These are good!“
Thank you for an incredible recipe!
