This Bacon Wrapped Asparagus is our favorite way to eat asparagus. It is seriously delicious. Tender asparagus and smoky bacon baked in a sweet and savory sauce. How could it not be good? This is a delicious way to use up all that fresh asparagus during asparagus season! Add this tasty side dish to your menu. You won’t be disappointed.
How to Make Bacon-Wrapped Asparagus
This side dish is super easy to make with only a few simple ingredients. Trim a bundle of asparagus. Wrap one slice of bacon around 3 to 4 asparagus spears. Place asparagus bundles in a single layer in a shallow baking dish. In a small saucepan combine brown sugar, butter, soy sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat and stir until sugar is dissolved. Pour the sugar mixture over the asparagus bundles. Bake in a preheated oven until the asparagus is tender and the bacon is crispy.
Helpful Tips & Frequently Asked Questions
- Make sure to trim the woody end off of the asparagus spears.
- Add a dash of red pepper flakes for a kick of heat.
- I suggest using regular-cut bacon and not thick-cut bacon. Thicker bacon will take longer to cook resulting in overcooked asparagus.
- Can Bacon Wrapped Asparagus be made in advance? The asparagus can be assembled ahead of time and refrigerated overnight. I wouldn’t pour the sauce over it since the sauce has butter and it might harden in the fridge.
- Feel free to add some grated parmesan cheese on top of the bundles before baking.
- If the bacon isn’t as crispy as you would like, you can put the pan under the broiler for a few minutes.
