Pin This RecipeStop what you are doing and add these burgers to your Tailgating and Labor Day menu. They are hands down the BEST burgers EVER! EVER! We made this last weekend and are already planning on making them again this coming weekend. They are that good!
The hamburger is mixed with onion powder, basil, teriyaki sauce, salt, pepper, bread crumbs and parmesan cheese. I divided the meat into three equal parts and used my hamburger press to form the patties. I am going to double the recipe this weekend and freeze some of the patties for later.
I used ground beef with 75/25 mix. I think burgers need a little more fat in the meat when you are grilling them. They tend to fall apart and dry out if you use really lean beef. That is just our experience.
We love to grill burgers, but I also like to cook burgers in my cast iron skillet. They only take a few minutes to make in the skillet. You can see the instructions here: How to Cook Burgers in a Cast Iron Skillet
Best Burgers EVER!

- 1 lb ground beef
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp salt

- 1 Tbsp grated parmesan cheese
- 3 slices American cheese
- 3 hamburger buns

What kind of teriyaki sauce do you use in these burgers?
I made these today, they were excellent. I didn’t have a problem with them falling apart, I used no egg. But I did use 1 and 1/2 lbs. of gender beef instead of 1 lb. I didn’t have a grill, so I broiled them in the oven on 475 degrees. They turned out great. Loved the Teriyaki sauce!
Family is a big fan! Thank you for this great recipe.
These are so easy to make and taste delicious! I use Worstehshire in lieu of Teriyaki. I also love the fact that onion powder is used and not onions like some recipes. My family always loves these and they are in my meal rotation! Thank you ❤️
Thanks for a great recipe! We make these burgers all the time. They are flavorful and juicy. We also always get compliments on them when we make them for guests.
I wish I knew what in the world you mean by ‘tailgating’ …. food? Give me a break! So you eat while you drive and you’re caught up on the freeway and so you start to ‘munch’ on a pattie while you keep your eyes on the car in front of you? I’m lost ….lmao.
Are you joking? Where are you from? You have honestly never heard of tailgating at a football game, baseball game, concert?????? You’ve never hung out with friends before a game and had food and drinks?
Tailgating is when you attend a sporting event, particularly football, and everyone in your group goes early and sets up a bbq in the parking lot. Grill burgers, sausages, hot dogs and have salads. Then they lay out the goods on the tailgate of a pickup. It’s a lot of fun.
Tailgating is what it’s called when you’re in the parking lot of a football game or other sports
Can you make them in a air fryer?
yes
used sweet onions instead of powder powder leaves a bad after taste and doesnt agree with my stomach
You did not make these burgers, so don’t review the recipe. You didn’t use it! The author was very kind to you!
What is a good brand of teriyaki sauce?
Went to the store, got the ingredients, prepped, cooked, then wasn’t hungry for dinner. Family says they are delicious!
Thank you for the recipe!
I’ll post pic if it allows 😉
I’m not a big meat eater – but I occasionally make hamburgers like my mom made – she’d dice up some onions, mix them in with the ground beef – add in some crushed saltine crackers and an egg. I fry them in some melted butter and a little Worcestershire sauce. So I love that this recipe has some bread crumbs in it! I was surprised that it didn’t have garlic powder in it-for some reason I get sick with garlic powder – have no problem with garlic salt or even fresh garlic-isn’t that weird? Gonna try this recipe!
i loved these burgers they were the best just like she sais we will make them again Donna
Excited to try these! Question. Instead of bread crumbs could you blend oats or something? I’m gluten free. Thank you!
Hello Nicollette, I’m gluten free too, you can get GF bread crumbs at your store. Also, if you can’t find them just make your own bread crumbs by toasting your GF bread and grumbling it up. Lots of recipes online for making your own breadcrumbs Best Wishes 🙂
I made these burgers two nights ago. I read all the comments and added an egg to the mix as some suggested! They came out perfect and delicious!
Chill the patties they will stay together on the grill …
Really good suggestion on chilling before grilling. The same concept holds true for keeping the coating on deep fried foods. 13-15 min in the freezer and straight to the hot oil.
I am making these for the 2nd time. Freezing for future meals. I doubled the recipe (2 lbs beef) I only buy meat from a local butcher as you can’t beat the taste then from grocery store beef. I put half the salt that was recommended, added an extra tblsp bread crumbs and added a small egg to help bind it together better. When bbqing I put the patties on coated foil to cook, once cooked through then add a big chunk of cheese( I like all cheeses, even blue cheese is yummy) and heating up egg buns at same time. Great, simple recipe for the best homemade burgers.
These were really good…just a little too salty. With the teriyaki sauce and parmesan, you really don’t need the 1/2 tsp of salt. I will leave it out the next time…but will definitely make these again….
My husband loved these (I’m vegan). Three bites in he said, “please put these on the rotation”.
I made them in the air fryer and they came out perfect!!
I made these tonight using 85/15 angus beef. I also charred pineapple and basted them in teriyaki sauce until charred. They were delicious and juicy burgers but they were hard to work with as they started to fall apart when I went to flip them on the grill. Next time (which will be this weekend) I will add an egg to help bind them.
Best burgers i have ever made!!!!!
SO glad you enjoyed them!
So yummy !! Maybe it’s just me but it was a little salty for my taste buds, probably because I rarely add salt to anything since I have little ones. Made a huge batch ahead for a BBQ and had to have a sneak peak so cooked them up tonight! Can’t wait to see what everyone else thinks of them!
This just knocked my worcester/A1/heavy cream off of rotation for the foreseeable future. These burgers were outstanding!
I found this recipe last summer. I had all the ingredients on hand but also added a pinch of garlic powder and an egg to help bind the patties. Made these hamburgers again last night and some oven-baked fries which also turned out fabulous. Happy we found this recipe and have since deleted all my other pinned “hamburger” recipes.
I occasionally add some grilled pineapple with a bit more teriyaki once I prepare my burger. Delish!
I found this recipe last summer and thought I’d give it a try. The hubs and I are not frequent meat eaters but every now and then . . . well, we just don’t deny ourselves.
Fortunately, the first time I tried this recipe, I had all the ingredients on hand but also added a pinch of garlic powder and an egg to help bind the patties. Tell you what, we think they just may be THE BEST BURGER EVER!!!
It’s so easy and convenient to go out and buy a burger and fries, but now that we’re in this Stay-At-Home quarantine situation, we pretty much cook our meals at home most days. Made these hamburgers again last night with some oven-baked fries which also turned out fabulous and it was a great end to a very busy day. We are so glad we found this recipe. I have since deleted all my other pinned “hamburger” recipes. This is definitely my go to. Doesn’t disappoint.
P.S. I occasionally add some grilled pineapple with a bit more teriyaki once I prepare my burger. It’s finger lickin’ good for sure!!!!!!
Cheers.
Made these tonight grilled them may not be the best burgers ever but they where good. They did not fall apart and they where juicy oh and I made them to the the way it told to
Very simple method and sounds good, thank you
Made these tonight, my only issue was they fell apart =( LOL Maybe I didn't press them together firm enough. Will try again. May only use 1/4 tsp salt as well, not used to using salt in our cooking in most things, so I got a lot of salt taste.
Making now thank you for the recipe!
I'm jealous! Enjoy!! ????????????
i made these burgers, only i made them with ground chicken, didn't have the teriyaki sauce so I used oyster and aminos. I also used panko and just italian seasoning My husband swore it was sausage. Very good. Thanks
This sounds delicious Charlene! Maybe a bit healthier than using red meat! I might give it a try, thank you!
So you skipped over half the ingredients and used a different protein then commented on good the recipe was? Makes zero sense.
So you made up your own recipe
