Cheesy Queso Hard Tacos

These tacos are cheesy to the max! They have cheese in the shell and the meat.  I used to make these tacos all the time. I had totally forgotten about them until I picked a jar of cheese dip on my last trip to Trader Joe’s.  The tacos are great. I can’t believe I ever forgot about these!

I bought a taco kit that included the taco shells, taco seasoning and taco sauce. The shells were the new flat bottom taco shells. They were much easier to fill, but they still broke apart when you bit into them. I think I might prefer the regular taco shells.

Cheesy Tacos
serves 4
(Printable Recipe)

  • 1 lb hamburger meat
  • 1 package taco seasoning
  • 2/3 cup water
  • ¾ cup jarred cheese dip
  • 5 slices American cheese
  • 10 taco shells
  • taco toppings – lettuce, tomato, salsa, sour cream

Place ½ slice of American cheese inside each taco shell. Bake according to package directions.

In a large skillet, cook the hamburger meat. Drain the fat. Stir in the taco seasoning and water. Simmer for 5-10 minutes, until water is absorbed. Stir in cheese dip.

Scoop meat into baked shells and top with your favorite toppings.

  1. Yes, I think these shells are just a lot easier to fill and you can stuff them with more. But they crumble just as easily, not bad, just need a big mouth to accommodate it, ha ha.
