Easy Cake Mix Dessert

If you like chocolate and coffee, this Chocolate Kahlúa Pound Cake is for you! This cake is extremely easy to make with a box of cake mix, chocolate pudding mix, and Kahlúa. YUM! The cake is super moist and the Kahlúa glaze really puts it over the top! This is great for a party. Serve the cake warm with some whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. One bite and you are going to be blown away!

How to Make Chocolate Kahlúa Cake

As I said, this cake is super easy to make. With a handheld mixer, mix together a box of yellow cake mix, chocolate pudding mix, canola oil, water, sugar, eggs, and Kahlúa. Pour the batter into a Bundt cake pan and bake. Let the cake cool slightly and top with a quick glaze made with powdered sugar and Kahlúa.

  • Do NOT make the cake according to the package directions. You are only using the dry cake mix.
  • Do NOT make the pudding. You are only using the dry pudding mix.
  • Is there alcohol in Kahlúa? Yes. There is alcohol in Kahlúa. Substitute an equal amount of strong coffee or espresso for a non-alcoholic cake.
  • I use Bakers Joy or Pam Baking Spray to grease and flour the Bundt cake pan. Either works great. You can also use Crisco or butter and dust the pan with flour.
  • Can pound cake be made in advance? Yes! You can make the cake ahead of time and store it in an airtight container for 3 to 4 days. The cake will keep in the refrigerator for up to a week.
  • Can pound cake be frozen? Yes! You can freeze the baked cake. Wrap the cooled cake in plastic wrap and aluminum foil. The cake will keep for up to 6 months in the freezer.

Ingredients:

Cake

  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 1 (5.9-oz) box instant chocoate pudding
  • 1 cup vegetable/canola oil
  • ¾ cup water
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 6 Tbsp Kahlúa

Glaze

  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup Kahlúa

Instructions:

  • Preheat oven to 350ºF. Grease and flour a 10-inch Bundt cake pan.
  • With a handheld mixer, mix together cake mix, pudding mix, oil, water, sugar, eggs, and Kahlúa for 2 minutes.
  • Pour batter into prepared cake pan.
  • Bake for 1 hour or until a wooden skewer comes out clean.
  • Cool cake in pan for 10 minutes. Remove from pan and let cool on a wire rack.
  • While cake is cooling, whisk together powdered sugar and Kahlúa. Pour over cake.

  2. I have been making a similar recipe for years, crowd pleaser always!
    With my recipe I also add 8oz. of sour cream, moist cake results!
    Also, I make it with a yellow cake mix or chocolate, both work with the same recipe.
    With the yellow cake I use French vanilla pudding mix, with the chocolate cake mix, I use Hersey’s chocolate pudding mix…enjoy!

  3. Can you substitute more Kalhua for some of the water? Like maybe 1/4 cup of the water, plus the 6 T? I would like a stronger Kalhua taste.
