Bisquick Cinnamon Rolls Recipe

These 7up Cinnamon Rolls are a new favorite at our house. They are so tender and flaky. I modified our favorite biscuit recipe and turned it into the most delicious cinnamon rolls around. The best part about this recipe is there is NO YEAST! That means no kneading and no rising. Simply mix up the dough, roll it out, add the filling, roll up, cut, and bake. These sweet rolls make a good breakfast or an afternoon snack.

What is Bisquick?

Bisquick is a pre-made baking mix sold by General Mills Betty Crocker. It is made with flour, shortening, salt, sugar, and baking powder.

If you don’t have access to a box of Bisquick, you can make a quick homemade Bisquick mix.

In a food processor pulse 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1 1⁄2 teaspoons of baking powder, 1⁄2 teaspoon of salt, and 2 1⁄2 tablespoons Crisco shortening. If you don’t have a food processor, you can use a pastry cutter to cut the shortening into the flour mixture.

How to Make 7up Cinnamon Rolls

These are the easiest homemade cinnamon buns I’ve ever made. In a large bowl, combine Bisquick, sour cream, and 7up just until a dough forms. It will be a slightly sticky dough. Turn dough onto a well-floured surface. Use a rolling pin and roll dough out into a rectangular shape. Use a pastry brush and brush melted butter over the dough. In a separate bowl, combine brown sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle sugar mixture over the melted butter. Starting at the long end, roll up the dough jellyroll style. Use a serrated knife or dental floss to cut the dough into 12 equal pieces. Transfer slices and place cut sides down in a cast-iron skillet or cake pan. Bake until golden brown. In a medium bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla. Spoon glaze over the warm rolls and enjoy!

Tips & Frequently Asked Questuons

  • You can use 7up, Sprite, or Ginger Ale in the dough.
  • If the dough is too sticky, add just enough bisquick mix until it is not sticky. Don’t add too much bisquick or the roll will be tough.
  • I used melted butter, but feel free to substitute softened butter if you prefer.
  • Can use white sugar or brown sugar in the filling.
  • Feel free to add nuts or raisins to the filling.
  • I baked these in a cast-iron skillet. If you don’t have a skillet, you can use a cake pan or bake them in a muffin pan. If you bake them in a muffin pan, they won’t take as long to bake.
  • Can 7up Cinnamon Rolls be frozen? Yes! Bake the rolls and let them cool completely. Cover the pan with plastic wrap and aluminum foil and freeze. Thaw and reheat covered in the oven until warmed through.
  • For a gluten-free sweet roll, use gluten-free Bisquick.
  • Store leftover rolls in an airtight container at room temperature.

Ingredients:

Dough

Filling

  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • cup brown sugar
  • tsp cinnamon

Glaze

  • 1⅓ cup powdered sugar
  • 2 to 3 Tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions:

  • Preheat oven to 350ºF. Lightly grease a 10-inch cast iron skillet or 10-inch cake pan.
  • In a bowl mix together Biqsuick, 7UP, and sour cream until it forms a soft dough. Once mixed, place dough on a floured surface and roll out in a 12×14-inch rectangle.
  • Spread melted butter over the entire surface of the dough. Combine brown sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over melted butter.
  • Begin to roll the dough from the longest edge jellyroll-style ending. Use a sharp knife to cut into 12 equal pieces. Place in the prepared skillet.
  • Bake for 22-25 minutes or until golden.
  • Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla. Add more or less milk to achieve the desired consistency. Pour glaze over warm cinnamon rolls.

Notes:

  • You can use 7up, Sprite, or Ginger Ale in the dough.
  • I used melted butter, but feel free to substitute softened butter if you prefer.
  • Can use white or brown sugar in the filling.
  • Feel free to add nuts or raisins to the filling.
  • This is a soft dough. Make sure to add a good amount of flour on the counter before rolling out the dough. If your dough is too soft, you can add extra Bisquick until you get the desired consistency. I suggest only adding up to an extra ½ cup.

    1. I’ve never tried this with almond milk. If you have used it in other recipes with success, then give it a try.

  1. I made this this morning. I have never made cinnamon rolls, and find I need to tweak my technique some. But since it was Christmas I made the glaze with egg nog; it was spectacular!

  2. Thank you. Sorry to bug you, but can I make them tonight, put them in the muffin tins and refrigerate until I bake them in the morning?

    1. I have not tried that before so I can not say with certainty if they will rise up as they should. The rolls taste great reheated if you wanted to go ahead and bake them. As always, please use your best judgment regarding substitutions and modifications.

  3. should the 7Up be cold or room temperature and does it matter if it’s ground cinnamon? I’m making these tonight and can’t wait to try them.

  4. I can’t wait to try these. I’ve honestly never had a bad recipe from your site and share it all the time. I’m curious to know if you’ve ever made orange rolls with this recipe and how it would change.
