Easy Homemade Pizza Sauce

We make a lot of homemade pizza at our house. I’ve struggled to find a good store-bought sauce, so I decided to make my own sauce for pizza night last week. OMG! This is the BEST! Super simple and SUPER delicious. The sauce is thicker than most jarred sauces and we loved it. The sauce clung to the pizza dough and had fantastic flavor.

How to Make Homemade Pizza Sauce

This pizza sauce is super easy to make with only a few simple ingredients. In a medium saucepan, combine tomato sauce, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, oregano, fennel seed, onion powder, garlic powder, and salt. Bring it to a boil and let it simmer a few minutes until it starts to thicken. That’s it! Almost as easy as opening a jar but so much better!

Can you Freeze Pizza Sauce?

You can make this pizza sauce in advance and store it in the refrigerator for up to a week (maybe longer). This recipe makes enough for two or three pizzas. Feel freeze to divide the sauce into small containers and freeze it for later. I usually double the recipe and freeze it for our next pizza night. This is my FAVORITE pizza sauce. I will never buy another jar or can of sauce again!

  • In a medium saucepan, combine all the ingredients.
  • Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes.

Notes:

Sauce can be stored in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for a week.
Can freeze the sauce for up to 2 or 3 months.

  1. This is my go to pizza sauce recipe. The sauce is nice and thick. I left out the fennel seeds because I didn’t have any. I also omitted the salt. The sauce tasted salty enough with out adding more. This is a good base recipe if you want to make some changes. We use greek pita bread and make minie pizzas all the time.

  2. I make someway but add crushed chili flakes. Also if it’s a little bitter, add a pinch of sugar and about a tablespoon of olive oil.

  3. This is THE best sauce I have ever tasted. We didn’t have fennel (and not sure what it’s for) but it was awesome! Will never buy pizza sauce again!
