Easy Chicken Freezer Meal

This Slow Cooker Honey Teriyaki Chicken is a weeknight favorite. We make this at least once a month. It is SUPER easy to make and everyone loves it. Chicken slow-cooked in honey teriyaki sauce, chicken broth, seasonings, and brown sugar. The best part about this recipe is that you can prep it ahead of time. Throw all the ingredients in a gallon freezer bag and freeze it until you are ready to make dinner. No need to thaw the bag, just put the contents in the slow cooker on your way out the door, and dinner is ready when you get home!

This is chicken is super easy to make in the crockpot. Simply place chicken, teriyaki sauce, chicken broth, rosemary, brown sugar, garlic, and basil in a 6-qt slow cooker. Cover and cook on LOW for about 6 hours. Shred the chicken with two forks and enjoy!

  • Can use any boneless chicken you prefer – breasts, tenderloins, thighs.
  • I used KC Masterpiece Honey Teriyaki Marinade.
  • Feel free to add some vegetables to the mixture – bell peppers, onions, asparagus, or broccoli would be good.
  • Can I use frozen chicken? Yes! You can add the chicken to the slow cooker frozen.
  • Can I cook the chicken on HIGH? Yes. The chicken will take 2 or 3 hours on HIGH, just depending on your slow cooker.
  • To make a freezer meal for later, simply place chicken, teriyaki sauce, chicken broth, rosemary, brown sugar, garlic, and basil in a gallon freezer bag. Place the bag in the freezer and pull it out when you are ready to cook.
    • You do not need to thaw the contents of the freezer bag before placing it in the slow cooker.

What to Serve with Teriyaki Chicken

This chicken is crazy good. We like to serve the chicken over some rice and top it with some sesame seeds and green onions. This is also great served over some ramen or rice noodles. Don’t forget to drizzle some of the sauce from the slow cooker over the chicken. You don’t want to waste it! SO GOOD! This makes a lot of chicken. Leftovers are great reheated during the week for a quick lunch or dinner. Add this to your menu ASAP! You won’t regret it.

  1. I have tried some of your recipes and I have to say they were great. My question is do you have any cookbooks out and if so where can I buy them?
Keep up the great work you do by sharing your recipes and Thank you.

    1. SO glad you are enjoying the recipes! I don’t have a cookbook. All of the recipes are available for free on the website.

  2. Good Morning Stephanie,
My name is Rose & I live in Ga. I would like to know on this recipe can You use frozen broccoli florets, canned water chestnuts & bamboo shoots & put all in the crock pot or would they be to soggy when meal is ready? It is only I in the home & like to find recipes that I can make several meals out of since this pandemic is surging again. Thank You for ALL the hard work that You do in putting out really good recipes for all the folks out there.

    1. It just depends on how you like to eat your broccoli. Obviously, the longer you cook it, the softer it will be. If you want it crispier, add it a hour or so before you serve the chicken.

  3. If I want to do my own Honey Teriyaki Sauce …do I use equal amounts of teriyaki sauce and honey? I will have to make my own because I do not use high fructose corn syrup in anything.

  4. If I split the recipe in half would that reduce the cooking time? As a family of 5 with 3 small kids we certainly do not need 8 servings but splitting it up over 2 meals would work perfectly.

    1. The cooking time would be about the same – it might be ready closer to 4 or 5 hours, but it could go for 6.

  5. I have honey and I have teriyaki sauce. Can I improvise, since I cannot find honey teriyaki anywhere in my town?

    1. Sure – just reduce the teriyaki by the amount of honey you use. I would probably use 2 or 3 Tbsp of honey – just depends on how sweet you want it. Enjoy!

  6. I could not find honey teriyaki sauce today and was going to make all 10 of these up tonight. I have teriyaki sauce and I have honey. Can I improvise?

  7. I've just started doing freezer meals and will be doing my second round this weekend! I can't wait to see what meals you will be posting! It has saved so much time!

  8. Hi Steph, would you mind sharing what brand Honey Teriyaki Sauce you used? Thanks and I really look forward to this series!!

  9. Thank you so much for doing this! I'm also super excited about this series as I am returning back to teaching after taking a few years off to stay home with my babies. Looking for something that is super easy to make for dinner and think freezer cooking is my solution! Can't wait to see what else you come up with- I know it will be delish!! Love how you include the freezing and cooking/reheating directions- that is the part that confuses me the most!

  10. So excited about this series, as we are packing our freezer with meals for when baby #2 arrives! Can't wait to add this one to the pile! 🙂
