How to Make French Onion Green Bean Casserole

This casserole is super easy to make. Combine green beans, cream of mushroom soup, French onion dip, cheddar cheese, and some French fried onions. Spread the green bean mixture into a baking dish. Bake for 25 minutes. Remove from oven, top with more cheese and fried onions. Bake until the cheese is melted and the onions are crispy.

  • I used canned green beans because that is what we prefer. Feel free to substitute an equivalent amount of fresh or frozen green beans.
    • 4 cans of green beans are approximately 3 pounds fresh or 32-ounces frozen green beans
  • For the french onion dip, it is important to use a container for a refrigerated sour cream dip in this recipe. Look for Kraft, Barber’s, Dean’s, or Heluva Good Dip.
    • If you can’t find the dip, add a tablespoon or two of Onion Soup Mix to sour cream.
  • Can French Onion Green Bean Casserole be made in advance? Yes! You can assemble the casserole ahead of time and refrigerate it overnight before baking. You may need to add a few minutes to the cooking time if baking straight from the refrigerator.
  • Can French Onion Green Bean Casserole be frozen? Yes! You can assemble the casserole and wrap it in plastic wrap and aluminum foil and freeze. When ready to bake, thaw and bake as directed.
