How to Make Garlic Butter Rice

This side dish is effortless to make with only a few simple ingredients. Rince long grain white rice and spread it into the bottom of a 2-qt baking dish. Top the rice with lemon juice, lemon zest, minced garlic, dijon mustard, paprika, cayenne pepper, Worcestershire sauce, fresh parsley, chives, thyme, chili flakes, a chicken bouillon cube, salt, and black pepper. Add chicken broth and butter. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil. Bake in a preheated oven for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and stir the rice. Bake uncovered for an additional 25 to 30 minutes. Fluff the rice mixture with a fork and garnish with chopped parsley or green onions.

Helpful Tips and Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I have to rinse the rice? Rinsing the rice removes excess starch and helps the grains remain separate. If you don’t rinse the rice, it may be sticky or gummy.
  • I use long grain rice. Can substitute jasmine rice or basmati rice.
  • Can I use brown rice? I am sure that you can, but I have not tried this recipe with brown rice, so I can not say what modifications need to be made.
    • Brown rice requires more cooking liquid and takes longer to cook.
  • I suggest low-sodium or no-salt chicken broth.
    • Can substitute vegetable broth.
  • Can use fresh garlic or jarred minced garlic.
  • Variations/Additions:
    • Sauteed onion
    • Sliced mushrooms

  1. First I have to say my family loves all your recipes! I look for every week to getting my email for your weekly recipes!! I can’t wait to try this one, I love rice and love to try different ways of making it. I was wondering if you thought this one could be made in the Insta pot? Thanks.

  2. Might sound kinda dumb, but you put one cube of bouillon in the bowl , think the flavor would go to mostly one place in the mix. Shouldn’t you dissolve it in the broth first ?

  3. I have made this a few times already, ecause it’s that good! The last two time I tweaked a little here & there. I used orzo & leftover ham & the last time I made it I doubled the size, I used cavatappi pasta & added rotisserie chicken from Costco, added some fresh red bell peppers, baby peas, cream of chicken soup & sprinkled some fresh shredded parmessan after I pulled it out from the oven, covered it again with the same foil & let it sit out for about 10 mins before I brought it to our potluck lunch for 10 people. We’re not even halfway through & everyone already went back for seconds & demanding I’m not allowed to leave without giving the recipe. BTW, we all bring our own to go containers because there would be a lot leftovers every time we do potluck. There was none left of this dish. LOL 😆
