Easy Bread Recipe with No Yeast

This Irish Soda Bread is super easy. Chicken Legs actually made it! It only has 4 ingredients and it tastes great. You will notice that there is no yeast in this bread. The baking soda and buttermilk make the bread rise. I love this bread because you don’t have to wait around for it to rise. Just mix and bake. Freshly baked bread in under an hour! Can’t beat that. This bread is especially good with some honey butter slathered on it. I plan on making some cinnamon toast with it for breakfast tomorrow.

How to Make Easy Irish Soda Bread

Irish Soda Bread is traditionally made with only four basic ingredients. In a large bowl, stir together the dry ingredients: all-purpose flour, salt, and baking soda. Add buttermilk to the flour mixture and stir with a wooden spoon until a soft dough forms. Pour the batter into a bread pan and bake until golden brown. Cool the bread on a wire rack before slicing with a serrated knife.

  • I baked this bread in a loaf pan. You can also shape the dough into a round loaf in a cast iron skillet, round cake pan, or parchment-lined baking sheet. Prepare the dough as directed and shape into a round loaf, score an X in top of the loaf with a sharp knife and bake.
  • Feel free to mix in some currents, raisins, orange zest, or caraway seeds to the dough.
  • To make Homemade Buttermilk, for each cup of buttermilk called for in the recipe combine 1 cup of whole milk and 1 Tablespoon of lemon juice or white vinegar and let sit for at least 5 minutes or until the mixture starts to curdle.
  • Store the bread in an airtight container at room temperature.

What to Serve with traditional Irish Soda Bread

This is one of the easiest breads that I’ve ever made. It is also one of the most delicious bread recipes that I’ve made. This no-yeast bread goes with absolutely everything! Chicken, pork, beef, soups, and casseroles. We especially love it with beef stew! This classic recipe is equally delicious toasted with butter or jam for breakfast. Whip this up the next time you are craving homemade bread. I promise you won’t be disappointed!

  1. I literally just made this bread and it's delicious. I think next time I'll make a double batch because mine, although perfectly dense and golden, didn't make a lot. Delicious with a pat of margarine on it, though.

  2. This bread was really good! My fiance loved it. I had never had Irish Soda Bread before but he said it was amazing and it was on point. I thought it tasted kind of like a pretzel, and even smelled a little like one. I'll be making this more often for him 🙂

  3. I love that this only has four ingredients, but looks so delicious! This is definitely going on my must try list!

  4. I LOVE your recipes!! I made the Easy Spasagna, Gorgonzola Garlic Bread, and Coca-Cola Cake for dinner this week – awesome! I also found the Biscoff Spread at Wal-Mart. This bread recipe will help me use up the rest of the buttermilk for those other recipes I tried this week!!!
