Easy Bread Recipe with No Yeast

This Irish Soda Bread is super easy.  Chicken Legs actually made it!  It only has 4 ingredients and it tastes great. You will notice that there is no yeast in this bread. The baking soda and buttermilk make it rise. I love this bread because you don’t have to wait around for it to rise. Just mix and bake. Freshly baked bread in under an hour! Can’t beat that. This bread is especially good with some honey butter slathered on it.  I plan on making some cinnamon toast with it for breakfast tomorrow.

How to Make Irish Soda Bread

Irish Soda Bread is traditionally made with only 4 ingredients – all-purpose flour, salt, baking soda, and buttermilk. Simply mix the ingredients together, form into a loaf, and bake.

  • I baked this bread in a loaf pan. You can also shape the dough into a ball, score and X in the top of the loaf with a knife and place in an iron skillet and bake.
  • Feel free to mix in some currents, raisins, or caraway seeds to the dough.
  • To make Homemade Buttermilk, for each cup of buttermilk called for in the recipe combine 1 cup of milk and 1 Tablespoon of lemon juice or white vinegar and let sit for at least 5 minutes or until the mixture starts to curdle.

  1. I literally just made this bread and it's delicious. I think next time I'll make a double batch because mine, although perfectly dense and golden, didn't make a lot. Delicious with a pat of margarine on it, though.

  2. This bread was really good! My fiance loved it. I had never had Irish Soda Bread before but he said it was amazing and it was on point. I thought it tasted kind of like a pretzel, and even smelled a little like one. I'll be making this more often for him 🙂

  3. I love that this only has four ingredients, but looks so delicious! This is definitely going on my must try list!

  4. I LOVE your recipes!! I made the Easy Spasagna, Gorgonzola Garlic Bread, and Coca-Cola Cake for dinner this week – awesome! I also found the Biscoff Spread at Wal-Mart. This bread recipe will help me use up the rest of the buttermilk for those other recipes I tried this week!!!
