This Kansas City BBQ Chicken is seriously the BEST! We ate this for lunch last week and couldn’t get enough of it. It is back on the menu again this coming weekend. Chicken seasoned with a homemade BBQ rub and basted in BBQ sauce. SO GOOD! I usually double the recipe so we can eat the leftovers during the week for lunch or dinner. The leftover chicken is great in a wrap, on top of a baked potato or salad.
How to Make Grilled Kansas City BBQ Chicken
This BBQ Chicken is very easy to make. Start with seasoning the chicken with a homemade BBQ seasoning made with brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Let the chicken hang out in the seasoning for a couple of hours to overnight. Grill the chicken and baste it with your favorite BBQ sauce before pulling off the grill.
How to Grill Chicken without a Grill
Don’t have a grill? No problem! You can still make this yummy chicken. Pan sear the chicken on both sides for 3 or 4 minutes. Transfer the chicken to a baking dish and cook at 400ºF for 10 minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 165ºF.

We LOVED this chicken! I used smoked paprika, which just elevated the flavor even more. And I used bone-in breasts and thighs, as that’s what I had on hand. Basted with just a bit of homemade BBQ sauce about 15 minutes before removing from the grill. Next I’m going to use the delicious rub on boneless breasts for sandwiches.
Can you cook in the the crock pot?
I’m sure you could
I see you list a cast iron grill pan under equipment…..do you use this pan or can you just place the meat directly on the grill?
I usually cook it directly on the grill. I just listed the grill pan in case someone wants to cook it without a grill.
This recipe looks yummy,I will make it tonight in my Ninja Foodi Grill. The appliance is one of the purchase I have ever made.
