Meatball Sub Casserole with Cream Cheese

This Meatball Sub Casserole is a weeknight favorite! French bread topped with yummy seasoned cream cheese, topped with meatballs, spaghetti sauce, and mozzarella cheese. YUM! This is so simple to make and tastes fantastic.  This dish feeds a lot and would be great for a potluck. Whip up a salad and you are set!

How to Make Meatball Sub Casserole

As I said, this is very easy to make. Slice a loaf of french bread and place it in the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish. Combine cream cheese and Italian seasoning. Spread it over the bread slices. Chop meatballs and place them on top of the cream cheese mixture. Spread spaghetti sauce over the meatballs and top with mozzarella cheese. Pop the dish in the oven and bake.

  • Feel free to toast the bread slices for a crunchier casserole.
  • I used frozen meatballs in this dish. Feel free to use homemade meatballs if you prefer.
  • Can substitute Texas toast or frozen garlic bread slices for the french bread.
  • Don’t like cream cheese? Try ricotta cheese or a combination of cream cheese and ricotta.
  • My favorite store-bought spaghetti sauces are Trader Joe’s Roasted Garlic Marinara (green label), Rao’s, and La Famiglia DelGrosso.
  • Can Meatball Sub Casserole be made in advance? Yes. I would wait to add the spaghetti sauce until you were ready to bake it.  I think the bread would get too soggy otherwise.

  1. I didn't have frozen meatballs so I subbed ground beef that I browned up. I then added seasonings to it (garlic, onion, parmesan cheese, oregano, and basil) like I would if I was making meatballs. It was quick and easy.
