Cat Photos to Make You Happy

I don’t know about you, but I need Meow Monday more than ever! There is a lot of difficult news out there right now, and I really enjoy taking a break with some cute cat photos.

Look at these two goobers. This is how Mack & Mango help me work everyday. They are a little lazy, but I wouldn’t trade these two co-coworkers for anything!

Mack is just the cutest. He spends most of his day napping and playing. I totally rubbed that belly after taking this picture.

Mango is still doing good taking her medicine. We are using the pill popper. She doesn’t like it, but it is the only way we can get her to take the pill. She had a seizure last week, so hopefully the longer she is on the medicine the better it will work. Otherwise, she is a happy little girl.

We are really struggling with Felix. He wants to be an outside cat, but we don’t want to let him go in and out of the house. We also aren’t sure he would come back. He begs all day to go out and if we don’t take him out he pees on the floor. He did it twice this weekend. We are talking about what to do. We want him to be happy, but what we have going on right now isn’t working. We are thinking of making a little box with some mulch and grass in it that we can keep on the screened deck. If that doesn’t work, we will have to talk about other options.

  1. I love your Meow Monday posts and your great recipes of course. Your awesome sauce chicken was a huge hit, thank you! We have a ginger cat named Henry. He was an indoor/outdoor when we adopted him. We thought our screened porch would provide enough outdoor stimulation but nope. We put a small catio next to our porch, it has no bottom so Henry can walk on the grass. Not every solution works for every cat and I hope you find something to satisfy Felix. They can be a handful but that’s part of cat love! Have a great week.

  2. Hi Steph,
Sorry to hear about your frustrations (and Felix’s); I know you want him to be happy, but it’s not possible on his terms. Don’t you wish our cats could communicate w/ us in English?! I’d like to know what Felix might like to be doing/seeing outside since he has wonderful places that he can enjoy the outdoors while being safe. What is the attraction~exploration? It’s tough b/c we can’t recreate certain environs or conditions. I feel for you. I think your consulting Felix’s vet is the best thing, so good luck, and hope you all work out something to everyone’s satisfaction.

  3. Have you thought about a harness and leash. My Winnie, when she wanted to go out and explore we would go together, her in her harness and me holding the “reigns”. She passed away in 2012, I miss our walks.

    1. Ooo maybe u should let him out. He will return. . my cat was much happier after I let him out. Took awhile to return but he knew how to get back home for loves

  4. Such adorable kitties. I hope Mango doesn’t have any more seizures. Good idea to keep Felix inside, much safer. Hopefully he will stop peeing when he doesn’t get to go out.

  5. Steph, do you have a fenced in yard? I believe I have seen companies or you guys may be able to cat proof your yard using a fence. At the top of the fence there are angled brackets/posts that have either screen or netting at the top. It’ll be angled inward so your kitty will find it difficult to climb up and over. They’ll have to be somewhat upside down to walk up and over. As you have said, you already have a “catio”, your beautiful screened in porch. Good luck!

  6. I so much enjoy Meow Monday. Yes, I agree., since I’ve been tuning in to the. Kitties, it helps to make my day. Also , I enjoy the recipes as I luv to cook, especially chicken dishes.

  7. My friend had a cat, like Felix, who wanted to be outside. Her solution was to buy a chicken coop with different levels inside as well as a few windows. Inside the coop she hung a few cat hammocks inside and a litter box. She then built a fence around and over the coop with a tunnel leading from the house to the catdom. The tunnel had a door which could be locked when she wanted her fluffer butt inside or if the weather was less than desirable.

It curbed her cat’s desire to try and rocket out the front or back door each time they were opened. It also gave the little beasty a sense of freedom from confinement because the roof of the cage was open-ish (it had chicken wire on top). She hasn’t had to worry about her cat escaping and he no longer pretends to be William Wallace fighting for his freedom!

  8. Hi Steph! I so enjoy your posts, especially Meow Monday! I’m sorry to hear you are struggling with one of your furbabies. We have the same issue with one of ours. He showed up at our house a few years ago and has been primarily indoor. In the last year, he has done the same thing as your Felix. We even have a catio, he has managed to break out of that too. We live in the country with not much traffic. So, we let him come and go. He comes in to eat and goes back outside. His choice. At night we do make him stay in and we have to lock the catio (much to our other 3 cats dismay!) I really hope things work out. I know you love all your babies very much. What about a possible tether or having someone catproof your yard? I know you live in a neighborhood with other houses. Unfortunately some neighbors do not like cats that roam. Best of luck and please keep us posted.

    1. Hi Steph. I personally will not allow my cats outside cause of dangers, diseases and possibly getting lost. They stay put inside and are happy. But Felix is different exploring a new world of senses. I would have a catio, some planted options for him indoors. You would have to watch all of them with planted grass as some cats eat it and it gets lodged in their throat and they choke and gag on it and then they couldn’t breath. A long time ago I thought my newly indoor (previously outdoor) cats missed being outside so I grabbed some grass and leaves. They promptly choaked on the grass with it stuck in their throat and I had to manually pull it out. Never did it again and considered being indoors a blessing. If you let Felix go outside on his own 24/7 hes guaranteed to run into something not right. Cats teeth are so tiny they can be bit by another animal, give a disease and you will never know it until symptoms show up. You could put him on a long chain and extend his hours outside by himself but still anything can happen including wetting on the indoor floor cause he will be litter box UNTRAINED at this point. He is expecting to go out now. Which is ok. But I’d get rid of the self guilt, get a catio, continue harness walks on YOUR accord, and leave it at that. Btw, you might add another litter box for his behaviour of floor peeing. If you do let him go 24/7 remember it’s like giving money to a 7 year old child at Walt Disney world and saying ….have at it. My brother lived in an apartment complex with other people in kansas city. Went to work. Came home to an indoor cat found dead in the yard. The people in the house didn’t say who let the cat out. It got hit by a car. I’d say Felix is safe with you started doing…letting him enjoy being outside sometimes. “NO” shouldn’t be too hard to say to a begging cat when you love them. Lisa Giltner

      1. We have a 200 sq foot screened porch with catnip. He pees because he is mad. He pees as soon as we tell him no that he can’t go outside. There is nothing wrong with him physically.

        1. He pees because he is mad we won’t let him out. He literally does it at the door after we say no.

  9. Have you thought about making a small outdoor enclosed pen for him using something like one of those dog kennels?

    Just wondering…

      1. Hi Steph! Love your Kitty posts! We put our princess in a harness & on a leash, and take her out for walks around the yard where she munches grass like a cow and gets to sniff and explore. Also buy her cat grass to munch indoors. Both seemed to help. We also open the screened door so she can sniff the night air. These might help with Felix?

  10. Hi Stephanie, I love your posts and your cats. I have 3…all rescues…and love cats! Have you considered meds for Grandpa? I had a cat a few years ago that I had taken in after my grandmother died who did the same thing as far as peeing on the floor. My vet put him on a minimal dose of Prozac, and it worked. No more peeing outside the box. I’m not an advocate of medicating unnecessarily, but in this case, it really helped minimize stress for both of us. Good luck!

  11. I love Meow Monday. I enjoy reading about your babies. I had a kitty that would not stay in. She was found dead outside and was poisoned. I will pray for Grandpa Felix, Mango and Mack.

      1. Poor Felix. The old boy wants his way😻 I agree trying a inside turf inside the patio. It may make him happy with his own indoor turf without being outside unattended. Older cats are at danger as you know to unkind people . He is so precious 😻 How old is he? Love the Meow Monday photos 😻😍🤗🐾
