How to Make Million Dollar Chicken Bubble Up

This is a casserole breeze to make with only a few simple ingredients. In a bowl, combine cooked chopped chicken, cottage cheese, cream cheese, sour cream, garlic powder, onion powder, and shredded cheese. Cut refrigerated biscuits into fourths and stir them in the chicken mixture. Spread the biscuit mixture into a baking dish. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes. I garnish the casserole with a little dried parsley before serving.

Tips & Frequently Asked Questions

  • This recipe is made for the smaller can of biscuits – NOT the bigger Grands biscuits. I used two cans of Pillsbury Flaky Layers Biscuits Buttermilk. It is a 6-oz can of biscuits with 5 biscuits in each can. You will need 10 total biscuits for this recipe.
  • I used a rotisserie chicken for the cooked chicken in this casserole. You can use any cooked chicken that you prefer.
  • You want the cream cheese to be very soft so it gets fully incorporated into the casserole. Microwave the cream cheese for 15 to 20 seconds if you are short on time.
  • You can use any shredded cheese that you enjoy. I used mozzarella and cheddar.
  • Feel free to add vegetables to the casserole. Broccoli and spinach are good.
  • Make sure to spread out the biscuits in the pan so they cook evenly. You don’t want big gobs of uncooked biscuits in the casserole.
  • Can Chicken Bubble Up be made in advance? Yes. I prefer to mix up the chicken and cheese mixture ahead of time and toss with it the biscuits right before baking. I find that the biscuits don’t rise as well if they sit overnight.
  • Can Chicken Bubble Up be frozen? Yes. Bake the casserole and cool completely. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and aluminum foil and freeze. When ready to serve, thaw and reheat covered in the oven or in the microwave.

  1. HI, Sounds like a great recipe. Just making sure on the cream cheese that it is meant for 3 oz and not 8oz? Thanks!

  2. My husband does not like cottage cheese due to the texture. Can I put it in a food processor prior to mixing it with the other ingredients or would it make it too thin/runny?
