This recipe came from my Mom. She made it a few years ago for Christmas and I fell in love with it. It might be my favorite cheese ball ever! This is made with Ranch dressing mix and mozzarella cheese. I don’t think I’ve ever had a cheese ball with mozzarella cheese in it. It was SO good. I had a hard time controlling myself around this! I could have easily eaten the whole thing by myself (I’m not even joking!). This cheese ball will be making an appearance for holidays again this year!
How to Make Mozzarella Cheese Ball
This is a super easy recipe to make. Simply combine cream cheese, Ranch dressing mix, mayonnaise, and mozzarella cheese. Shape the mixture into a ball or log and roll in chopped pecans. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
- Can use low-fat or fat-free cream cheese.
- Here is our recipe for Homemade Ranch Dressing Mix: https://www.plainchicken.com/homemade-ranch-dressing-mix/
- You can divide the cheese mixture into 2 equal balls or into smaller individual balls for parties.
- Sometimes I like to stuff the cheese mixture into celery and top it with the chopped pecans.
- If you don’t want to roll the cheese ball in pecans, you can use fresh herbs, walnuts, almonds, chili powder, paprika, or crushed pork rinds.
- Is Mozzarella Cheese Ball gluten-free? Yes! All of the ingredients in the cheese ball are gluten-free.
- Is Mozzarella Cheese Ball low-carb and keto-friendly? Yes! All of the ingredients in the cheese ball are low-carb.
- How long will a cheese ball keep? The cheese ball will keep up to two weeks covered in the refrigerator.
What to Serve with a Cheese Ball
We usually serve the cheese ball with some crackers or veggie slices. I especially like this with the Spicy Snack Crackers I posted earlier this month. OMG! SO good! This is also good with Sociables, Wheat Thins, or Better Cheddars.

I cannot buy buttermilk powder here, what could I substitute for it please?
you can use the Hidden Valley Ranch packet instead of making your own ranch mix
Is the mozzarella cheese a “regular” mozzarella cheese or a specialty? Recipe lists it as mozzarella cheesecheese ball with ranch dressing… unless you have gremlins like my laptop that has a mind of its own! Just made your spicy snack crackers yesterday. You have such good recipes…thanks for sharing!!
It was obviously a typo. I corrected it. Should just be mozzarella cheese.
Just finished making this – modified with a whole packet of ranch, and 3 TBS of mayonnaise, as it was becoming too wet while I was mixing. Will report back – thanks for the great idea & Happy Thanksgiving!
Try it with Ranch DIP mix instead of dressing, it's more flavorful and i's finer and mixes much better!
What a cheesy post 😉
Made this for an office party today and the only thing I will change next time is to add more of the ranch seasoning mix. Needed more flavor, we thought. Will try it next time with the enitre package of mix. If that's too much, will keep trying until I get a happy medium!
This looks amazing and so simple! I definitely am going to make this for when we have friends over !
This sounds scrumptious! I love cheese balls and my kids make fun of them. That's ok though…more for me. 🙂
Elizabeth – you could try a couple of tablespoons of milk or substitute Greek yogurt for the mayo.
Could you leave out the mayo or should it be exchanged for something else?
Snack perfection!
Woah…I can see how you could have eaten the whole thing yourself. I'm gonna have to test this out!
