Oatmeal Pie Recipe – tastes as good as pecan pie without the expense! Oatmeal, sugar, corn syrup, butter, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, oatmeal, and pie crust. If you like a warm oatmeal cookie then you are going to LOVE this old-fashioned oatmeal pie! You can make the pie several days in advance. Great for the parties and the holidays! Serve warm with a scoop of ice cream.
Old Fashioned Oatmeal Pie
Oatmeal Pie is a vintage pie that originated in the civil war era when pecans were in short supply. I found this recipe in an old cookbook. It was described as a poor man’s pecan pie. We love pecan pie, but it really can be expensive with all the pecans. I decided to put the recipe description to the test! Well, it was spot on. This pie does taste a lot like pecan pie! I might even prefer it to pecan pie. We serve this with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. YUM!
How to Make Homemade Oatmeal Pie
This pie is easy to make with only a few basic ingredients. In a large bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, corn syrup, butter, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Add oatmeal and give the filling a good stir. Pour the oatmeal mixture into an unbaked pie crust. Place the pie on a rimmed baking sheet and bake until set. Remove the pie from the oven and cool on a wire rack before cutting it into slices with a sharp knife.

How to store this after baking?
I have made this pie many times. It is a favorite. I made it for the Thanksgiving pot luck at my retirement community and had many compliments. I have even had people ask me to make one for them. It's so easy and is perfect for someone who might have trouble baking. Thank you. Oh, and let me add, today is the Christmas pot luck…guess what I am taking…lol
Very tasty! I added some oatmeal cookie spices too (1 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp each cloves, ginger and nutmeg). Mine took a little more than an hour to bake and seem set up enough to take out of the oven.
Can I add chocolate chips?
Sure! Sounds delicious!
I can't wait to try this! My little one loves oatmeal and pie! What a perfect treat 🙂

What could I use instead of corn syrup? We don't have that here. Thanks
Sorry – – – TADD
I've made this pie for a long time, and I agree, it is better than pecan pie. You might also try ritz cracker pie – it tastes a lot like apple pie.
When Tad gets full, let me know. I'll be glad to do the eating for you!!!
What kind of oats? Regular or quick? Cooked first or added dry? Could you adapt this for steel cut oats?
Don't cook the oatmeal first – add to pie uncooked. You can use regular or quick cook oats.
Have no idea how to adapt this for steel cut oats – I don't cook with them.
Thanks for the info. We will give it a go on Thanksgiving.
