How to Make Grilled Orange BBQ Chicken
This dish is effortless to make. Whisk together orange juice, brown sugar, and BBQ sauce. Pour over chicken and let it marinate in the refrigerator for a few hours. When ready to cook, remove the chicken from the marinade and grill until it reaches an internal temperature of 165ĀŗF. We like to brush the chicken with a little extra BBQ sauce right before we take it off the grill. YUM! It really bumps up the flavor.
- You can use this marinade onĀ any cut of chickenĀ ā breasts, tenders, thighs, wings, or drumsticks/legs.
- You can useĀ boneless or bone-in chicken. Adjust the cooking time to ensure an internal temperature of 165ĀŗF.
- MyĀ favorite store-bought BBQ saucesĀ are Sweet Baby Rays, Stubbs, G.Hughes, and Williamson Brothers. I buy them all at Walmart.
- Use a gluten-free BBQ sauce for a gluten-free dish.
- I suggest pounding the chicken breast to an even thickness. We put the chicken in a ziplock bag and use a flat meat mallet to carefully pound out the hump. This ensures that the chicken cooks evenly and you donāt have juicy chicken and half-dry chicken.
- I donāt have a grill.Ā Can I cook the chicken in the oven or skillet?Ā Yes! To cook the chicken breasts inside, pan-sear it for 3 to 4 minutes per side. Place on a rimmed baking sheet. Bake at 400ĀŗF for 10 minutes.

Can I cook it in my air fryer?
sure!
Hogsome! While we don't eat a lot of chicken at our house (we raise pork and beef), these were a huge hit. I marinated boneless skinless chicken thighs and they were devoured by all 3 of my boys! Next, I'm going to try it with pork cutlets! Thanks for sharing!
Hi can you bake this in the oven? Thank you!
Hi. Can you bake this in the oven? Thank you!
Yum! This looks awesome — love that it's just four ingredients. And awesome that it marinades and gets a fresh coat on the grill too!
It says to "pour remaining marinade over chicken." Do you reserve some for another use?
That was a typo – I used all the marinade on the chicken and brushed plain BBQ sauce on the tenders before taking them off the grill
You don't add any oil to this marinade? Could I add some minced garlic? It sounds yummy!
I made the marinade as listed above. Feel free to tweak it to your personal preferences
